Mannitol is an osmotic diuretic.

They use it as a filler in medications I believe. Perhaps your GP can monitor the side effects and don't take too much.

I believe the affects of mannitol used as a drug are different than when using mannitol in amounts found to be safe for human consumption as a food sweetener. You may feel better speaking with your physician or pharmacist especially if you have a personal history of low kidney function or congestive heart failure. I personally never take a supplement or prescribed drug unless I understand what it does and what possible side effects are.

Everyone is different in how they respond. Some people are more sensitive to sugar alcohols like mannitol and are more likely to have gas, bloating and even diarrhea if above their tolerance level is ingested. That's why many of the people starting the protocol are beginning at a fraction of the recommended amount for their weight and increasing slowing over several weeks or even longer. This seems less likely to produce unpleasant gastric issues as the body adjusts to an increased amount.

Make sure you are comfortable with your knowledge before you move forward. If you are not comfortable with what you learn, remember the intervention that seems to have good evidence for reversal of PD symptoms is exercise. There too, you are best off starting slow and building up gradually.

Let us know what you decide and how you do.

Thank you. A month has gone by and we have been off track with other things and now I am returning to the ordering of mannitol fory husband either directly from Pure Bulk Co or from Amazon. I have re- read the sites suggested here and am willing to give it a try being careful to begin with a low dosage. Over time there will hopefully be no adverse effects, and also hopefully there might be some improvement in him. I will report back. Again, thank you for taking the time to reply. All the best to you!

Boyce, a link to what you are referring to would help. Be that as it may, mannitol is infused via IV in massive quantities to prevent brain swelling in the event of a stroke. As such it can cause kidney failure due to overload trying to get rid of it. This of course is quite different than small quantities taken by mouth.

Mannitol has been tested on rats in large quantities on racks in large quantities and apparently reduced alpha-synuclein in the brain or had some effect on alpha-synuclein. I think to assume taking small quantities by mouth to be a therapeutic dose is stretching reality. I will wait for the next train thank you.

Even worse, actually. It was tested on fruitflies.

Thank you. I am going to order it and monitor my husband. The neuro was no help, citing as usual: not FDA approved, no scientific proof, yada yada. The clock is ticking. I will report back. Thank you for taking the time to reply!
