Sinemet

Sinemet made my stiffness and dystonia (that thing that makes you feel like you're going to push your foot out of the bottom of your shoe) worse. Shall this, too, pass? Or am I taking too much of a good thing?

It hasn't happened to me so far. I'm just curious, how long have you been on sinemet and what is your dosage?

25/100. A half a pill three times a day. It's been about three months.

Give it a couple of weeks if you can. My side affects started getting better and finally for the most part went away.

Did they get worse before they got better?

Any thing is possible. You are on such a small dose. I would ask to increase it. A larger dose might get you more close to normal.

Just a thought

Without going back to previous posts of yours, the comment from parkbear causes me to ask these couple of questions:

Besides tremors, what were your symptomswhen you were diagnosed?

How long ago did you receive the diagnosis?

My tremor started the first time back in 2006 and affected by right foot and hand. I saw a neurologist, he prescribed neurontin, and that took care of the problem.

Then, in early 2012, the tremor came back, but only in my hand/arm. It brings on a lot of pain -- the result of what the doctor called involuntary "bracing." That is just about the only consistent symptom I have, although I started having more difficulty walking before I started Rock Steady Boxing.

A second DaTscan showed increased abnormality, but on my right side. The doctor said with Parkinson's, it should be on the left if my tremor is on the right. But she still feels I show definite signs of PD, like if she raises my arm up over my head, my head shakes. And my arm with the tremor does swing normally.

Thank you. This is interesting. Are you still taking the neurotin? Have not heard of that one, but still new to this.

Naw, this time around neurontin was a dud.

Sinemet equivalent (time release C/L 50/200 mg 3x/day) relieved my stiffness dramatically. A heavy dose of immediate release C/L, say 50/200, can cause me dystonia/dyskinesia, but only briefly. The amount you are taking is very small. That says to me your brain already has adequate dopamine to begin with and you do not have Parkinson's.

As you know, I have long thought that your tremors are an adverse reaction to the psych meds and this seems to confirm that.

Man, I feel like I'm at sea. Without a sail!

Did you ever get a second opinion? If not, I would recommend that.

Another approach would be to ask your existing MD to order a DAT scan. I she agrees and you do, be sure to get a copy of the test report for yourself.

Since being on sinemet I too have had this with my foot! I thought it was a new symptom but maybe not

Tell your neurologist you want Botox injections in your affected foot and this will go away.

My sister was diagnosed 3 years ago. She seems to throw up a lot in the mornings. Does anyone know if this could be from the Sinemet?

Beckey profile image
Beckey in reply to aloha24

When I started on sinemet, I felt pretty nauseous all the time and threw up so frequently I doubted any of the meds were making it to my brain. At first my neurologist told me to take an extra carbidopa (25 mg), but that didn't do the trick, so she prescribed something called Ondansetron. I take one every 8 hours. What a relief!

Thanks Becky, yes she's taken that, otherwise known as Zofran but don't think she takes it on a regular basis. Will find out.

Different...i use kalapin to help atnight anti spasmatic. One thing i have learned is the drug never do the same thing each time . The overdose looks like an underdose...so caution

I'm wondering about what you are calling dystonia. Is it painful because dystonia is, it's like having a cramp.

For what it's worth I think your symptoms are from under medication but unless you increase your dose you won't know. When ever I take a dose of sinimet my symptoms get worse for a little while then settle. It's due to the changing levels. If I don't take enough to get to a therapeutic level I just have symptoms but no relief.
