Creon or Pancrex V
Hi TFH1
I've just been diagnosed with PEI, after 2 years of being told to be grateful for the weight loss! I was offered the choice, but as I hadn't even heard of PEI, I went with my dietician's advice of Creon 2500.
I started in late November '23 and it's been slow progress. In fact I haven't put any weight on at all so far and I hope you are getting along better than I am. I'm having monthly phone calls with my dietician and try to follow her guidelines but after years of being on medication where the dosage is set out for you (for arthritis, for example) I find it difficult to judge how much I should be taking. At first I think I was over compensating, hoping for a quick result, and taking too many. Now I don't think I take enough which is why there is no weight gain although I feel I have a bit more energy these days. It's very hit and miss and I don't think it matters which brand you are taking. I may be wrong and am going to discuss in my next consultation.
I find it's easy to forget to take them if you have a snack especially when 1 biscuit turns into several! The thing is not to expect miracles straight away and persevere. Well, that's my philosophy at the moment.
Please let me know how you are getting on, and which sort you opted for. Hope this helps in some way, keep smiling 😅 Julie
Hi Julie,
My approach to taking CREON, is this:
I religiously read nutrition labels, use pancreatitis food tracking apps etc. and determinte how much fat will be contained in a meal or snack.
From 0 - 5 grams, I take no pills
From 5-10 grams, I take 1 pill
Over 10 grams I take 2 pills.
I started CREON last April, after losing nearly 35 kilos in 5 months.
Since then, I have gained back 3 kilos! (never thought I would be happy to gain weight)
You already have an advantage: PERSEVERANCE! Keep it up. and best of luck.
