Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with Chronic pancreatitis. I have been hospitalized two times a year at least for the past 10 years and in the past three months just found out I have severe scarring in Calcification. With all my MRIs and CT scans I’m not sure how this was missed. In October I had 2 Stents put in but I am still suffering from severe pain. I am getting no clear answers on pain options from pain management I was told the only thing they can do is a Celia plexus block or live in pain. I am also a brittle T1D having problems keeping my blood sugars down. I believe I have simply had poor health care and direction. However it is my fault also for not looking into answers till now and Advocating for myself properly. I’m concerned with having the block done because it also shuts down never stop other organs and is not Guaranteed to work. Has anyone had this procedure done and if so what is it helpful? Ya

Are you able to go to a hospital that specializes in diseases of the pancreas? If you live in the USA, The National Pancreas Foundation has list of hospitals that specialize in diseases of the pancreas. It's no wonder your blood sugar is staying high, because of your level of pain. Are you being treated by an endocrinologist? I've not had the nerve block done. Mission: Cure has webinars and good information about pain management for pancreas patients.

I was in the same position a couple of years ago and I was being told the plexus block was my only option by the pain management company my doctor referred me too. Before I agreed I requested to speak to the chief of the GI section that handles my care. The chief said before I get any invasive procedures he recommends I be started on pain medication first to see if that will help. I went through a few different very light weight pain meds before trying the Buprenorphine patch which is a opioid but the way it was explained to me is there are no angelic properties in this medicine so you don’t get the same effects as you do with large doses of opioids. I tolerate these well and they don’t alter my mind or make me extremely tired. I do still have pain but it’s much more tolerable and I have not had an ER visit since being on them. I’m not sure if the specifics of your case will allow this option but it might be worth inquiring
