TMJ function and dysfunction

Question?

Is it generally acknowledged that the comfort and healthy function of the TMJ is directly related to the position and shape of the teeth ?

Do you think it is ?

Pretty sure that's the case, logic says so plus I've definitely heard it somewhere fairly authoritative though can't remember where...

YES and far more than that. Its a vital part of the body and has direct relationship with the sacrum for a start. Doctors are mostly unaware of this . Best help I know is with advanced NST ( NeuroStructural Integration Technique. This is development of Bowen (Technique) therapy, with practitioners across the globe. The guy in east coast US was brilliant but he imploded, with much of his knowledge base now carried by Ron Phelan in Australia. Want more?

Good on you timbow! I integrated the cranio-sacral mechanism into my work in 1985. There is nothing in it that conflicts with "The Relatively Simple Theory of Jaw Function". As I have been hoping, the larger picture begins to emerge.

In 1985 a fellow dentist arranged an appointment for the two of us with a cranio-sacral oriented chiropractor and one of his patients. He muscle-tested her and said that she had a tense muscle in her neck that he had not been able to release. I then performed an occlusal equillibration (bite adjustment)for her in expectation it may help. After this he tested her again. The muscle had not released. The chiropracter asked me if I was sure my equillibration was done properly. I checked and everything looked properly done. There has to be something there. Are you sure he asked? It looks right but if I was going to do anything at all I would take just a little bit off this front tooth. I took a bit off, he tested again, the muscle had released.

The other dentist emerged from his office holding a large book that I had not seen before. He leafed through it and came to a diagram that showed all of the teeth and connected each one to the structure and/organ system that they were supposedly conected with. Amazingly the last tooth I adjusted was connected to the muscle that was released.

Shape and position of your teeth are a function of the most important element of them.. their height.

"Vertical" as dentists call it is critical to the structural stability of your entire skull.
