I get badly bitten by all sorts of bugs. Midges in the West of Ireland and Scotland. Sandflies in New Zealand.

I've discovered an absolutely magic cure.

It's called After bite. Basically an Ammonium gel, which if applied immediately after the bite, takes away all aftereffects.

I carry a tube all the time. Very effective for wasp and bee stings as well.

Il try to attach a photo.

Canadian here. Used to spend my three month school holiday summers at summer camps in woodlands of Ontario. Every week there would be a new set of campers and some of them were British. Some had been in Canada for several years, some were recent migrants. And the beautiful English Roses and their husbands always had big reactions to the mosquitos. by the end of the summer I didn't react at all. And each week campers would arrive and some would react, others didn't so much. We put it down to the mosies training out immune systems, and having been born in Canada and been bitten for many years, we sort of developed a resistance somehow.

Bare in mind I was a teen in those days, and although I was the only one into science (It was a religious evangelical summer camp that my family were involved in, I had no choice!), I had no evidence. However, now as a scientist with access to research, it seems I wasn't far off.

sciencedirect.com/science/a...

"Conclusion

"These results indicate that IgE, lymphocyte and probably, local IgG immune-complex-mediated hypersensitivities are involved in mosquito allergy. Naturally acquired desensitization to mosquito bites occurs during long-term exposure."

Hi Betsy, have you had the bites definitely confirmed as being mosquito bites by a doctor? It might be worth having them properly checked out so you know how to treat them. After Bite is good but I use an Anti Histamine cream as well as the After Bite as I react badly to them in the UK each summer. I also find bathing the bites in warm/hot water takes the itch away temporarily.

Hi Betsy, we currently live in Spain and get bitten really badly. You can get Afterbite from Amazon here and in the UK, however we found this electrical heat zapper actually stops the itching after just one or two zaps if you use it as soon as you start to itch. It’s painful so no good for children but the pain is so much better than the itching, the bite seems to go down flat too and disappear within a day. Hopefully your bites won’t get a chance to get infected with this.

Mosquitoes are brutal this year and I couldn’t get rid of the itch and massive painful lumps. I tried ice packs, anti itch lotions which helped a little in the end they eventually went away but not until they tortured me throughly.

Hi batty1 thanks for replying aye your right they are brutal !!!!! That's works now and they still itch like crazy and it's like deep holes horrible little things lol

Sympathy from me to both of you. Batty1 Betsy50 Mosquito bites are really horrible. I didn't realise they can bite through clothing until I Googled them! I find piriton has soothed the bites and seems to be a deterrent as well.....perhaps blood doesn't taste so good with piriton in it :-)

Any type of biting insect make a meal of me and the bites seem to linger far longer than they used to. It doesn't matter what I slather o they still bite. That After bite can be obtained over the Internet from places like Amazon. I have something similar but it only seems to ease it if I feel the bite and put it o straight away. The trouble is that some sneaky critters seem to have a items you don't actually feel and it is only when the lump comes up do you realise you have bee bitten.

Hope that they clear up soon.

You are the same as me. I have a bite in an unmentionable place and it is sending me mad. Every time I have a shower the warm water seems to reactivate it. You have my sympathy.

rosewine profile image
rosewine in reply toBetsy50

Its amazing how they can creep up between your shorts and legs. You think the bit under cover of clothes is safe but they find a way. I love Scotlwnd but could never live there because of the midges. My husband never seems to get bitten, life's unfair. We must be tastier.

Yes some parts of Scotland are definitely worse than others. The worse I was ever bitten was I the anks if Loch Lomand strangely in September. The weather had been extremely wet and that day therr had actually been some sun but it had been very still. Walked the dog down by the Loch and we were surrounded they just coated hernfur and they were everywhere. Ran as fast as I could back to the motorhome (this was prefibromyalgia of course)swatting them away but every bit that was sticking out ifmmy clothes was bitten and didn't heal up for weeks. The itching nearly sent me insane.

Oh my what a nuisance. As a preventative, I put ‘tea tree oil’ on my wrists, my neck, behind my ears and on my knees to stop mosquitoes biting me. It works. After I discover a bite I apply the oil and again it calms everything down.

Keep us posted as I don’t think you can get yellow fever or malaria in Canada. I hope you feel better soon.

hi I live in canada for the summer. Black flies take a while to go away and itch like crazy. I use after bite but you have to use it right away for it to work. Thankfully black flies gone now. But still have mosquitoes. What part of Canada were you in. I was in Portland Ontario. Big Rideau lake. About 50 miles from the thousand island bridge. Feel better. ❤️

Unreal. Mosquitos are moving north now.

What kind of malaria did he see? Plasmodium vivax or falciparum?

Did he treat the patients with cloroquine? Thank you.

in reply toKonagirl60

I don't think my son was directly involved with the malaria cases, he just told me of them. I wouldn't know what type of malaria it was. Here is an article about it. news.wgcu.org/section/envir...
