Swollen belly with Nortriptyline

Is there anyone else taking Nortriptyline who gets a very swollen belly/abdomen? I am only on 30mg per day (taken at night). I will be speaking to my GP on Monday, but wondered if anyone else has experienced the same? It’s desperately uncomfortable. I am taking it for dysesthesia/neuropathic pain.

Hello Folksing. I took Nortriptyline for around 6 months and I had this bloated tummy all the time with all the associated uncomfortable symptoms. For me personally it never went better and because the medic didn't help in any way (except making me sleep) I just stopped it. As far as I can see, it seems that all medic for pain give you a bloated tummy and you put on weight. Bad luck for us!

Hi Chleo11, thanks for your reply. I certainly agree with your last sentence! I am reducing my Nortriptyline dose & will see whether it copes with the neuropathic pain, but I could not continue with the awful distended belly. It’s obviously a side effect but I’ve never seen it mentioned anywhere. So it’s really helpful to find out that it affected someone else too. I will report it as a reason for reducing or stopping the Nortriptyline.
