has anyone else who is around there mid 60's suddenly had a large lack of energy?
I am now 65 and over the last year found I have almost no energy, if I try to do anything for more than 3 to 4 minutes I end up completely out of breath and have to sit down from 10 to 30 minutes before I feel able to do anything more I accept that I have gained weight but the amount of energy I have lost does not compare to the weight I have gained has anyone else come up with this?

when I first noticed the lack of energy I mentioned it to my doctor and he did just about every blood test that there is but none of the fixes did anything they started with a complete lack of vitamin C so they put me on a very high dose of tablets which raised my vitamin C but did nothing towards giving me any more energy then they said it is my thyroid level and now I have to take that every day but still no gain in energy in the end I think they took around 20 lots of blood but no definite cause for my lack of energy I have now given up and accept that it is most likely due to the weight I have gained which although I do not eat that much it must be more than this old body needs to stay at the same or lower weight.
This can be due to a number of problems. Heart problem is a possibility. So must see doctor sooner rather than later. It could be a movement problem. The interior muscles are too tight. The weight you have put on hides this. A sports therapist should be able to advise and give a valuable second opinion to take to doctor..
The tests for thyroid aren't accurate and miss an issue with thyroid. Best test is upon awakening lay there and put a thermometer in your armpit and wait 3 minutes. Do this three days in a row...If it is under 98.6 you have a issue. Ask for Armor a more natural and safe answer. Also have your iodine levels checked. We are very short on iodine these days. Your breasts need almost the same amount as your thyroid gland. All with breast cancer have low iodine levels. As we age we lose our Co Q 10 levels, it is your energy enzyme it is needed in every cell in our bodies and especially our heart May you find an answer for your reduced energy soon.
I would love to do any form of exercise but due to my back, neck and joint damage I always get told that they are sorry but they are not allowed to work with me the last physiotherapist I saw once he had read my notes said there is no way he would be doing any work on me as my back is still broken in 3 places along with my neck slowly falling apart he added that anyone who did could very easily cause more damage which could put me in a wheelchair for life so I have accepted that exercise is not for me which I hate as I was always a very active person until my accident but I am still alive and am happy for that as a lot of people who join our armed forces do not live to leave at the end of their term.
Hi Poppy. I'm new on this site but not new to illness. My worst is fibromyalgia which leaves me breathless and exhausted but so much in pain. I was always told by friends it was probably thyroid but wasnt. Be sure to give doctor all your symptoms so as to get a decent result and most of all take care and be gentle on yourself. Warmest wishes 😽x
Thanks BoohPear I am gentle on myself most of the time unless I have to move something and then tend to over do it a little and then later I tell myself that I was stupid to do whatever it was and just lay there in pain if they could come up with something that would switch off the pain receptors I would do it in a heartbeat I know my muscles are still there and if I could get rid of the pain I could use them for exercise which would be very helpful and I would be in much less pain even with the pain receptors back on.
I first started this reply just to say I like your log in name of Boohpear I take it it is a play on PoohBear? I have a love of bears since I got my first one at age 15 and although people laugh at me I still have one in bed with me every night and did even when I was in the army for 12 years.
Hi Poppy and I still have a Pooh Bear in bed with me at night but he's a big ginger and white first cross Maine coone. Someone else used poohbear on this site so I had to find another, hence BoohPear!!!! Let me know how you get on Poppy. Warm wishes, gentle hugs 😽
I have to go back to doctors on Thursday for results from blood tests, I believe they must have found something as normally if there is nothing they don't make an appointment for you and just put your results in your docs that you can read online. once I have been I will put up what they tell me.
Hi Poppy, I hope all goes well at docs. I always think if I've got an appointment with a few days til I go it can't be that bad.. So here's hoping it works that way for you. I'm coming out of a four day flare so will have to get legs moving soon and so it goes on eh? Warm wishes, gentle hugs 😽x
