This drug can and does effect concentration and memory, it can also be dependant on weight, age and pain involved.

If your are taking full dose eight tbs a day the drug will build up in the body and could upset the lining o the tummy and cause constipation.

Some medics will introduce another unrelated type of medication that will complement the drug you take. This may reduce the doses taken.

Consider what else you are taking, that can have side effects with other drugs.

I do not know why you are on your medications, ? However if it is joint, tendon related etc a TENS Machine may help, I get mine through the hospital or purchase my own machines at BODY CLOCK on the internet

Cheers bob appreciated. Does it figure that the higher the dosage the more chance of symptoms? Do you know?

Taking various drugs can give people a gippy tummy, the drug mentioned is a mix of two different medications, both work in different ways

There are various other medications our GP can try if He feels it is needed.

For Pain I take Tramadol, with Amytryptalene AD for nerve damage, I also use TENS when I flare.

Cocodomol I presume 30/500 is a moderatatly low level opiate as two of them is equal to 2.5mg of morphine. It is also synthesized into morphine salts in the body and excreted as morphine in your urine. It can have interactions with other meds particularly other opiates and can lead to withdrawal in opiate tolerant patients when taken regularly so your doctor when doing the prescription should get an interaction list on their computer.

Also when you begin taking cocodomol 30/500 it can cause a feeling of warmth and euphoria, which can lead to memory loss and poor concentration as you described. This is why this drug can be abused and regularly is, even over the counter in various preparations including solpadeine max and Nurofen plus.

Take cocodomol for the shortest amount of time to control your symptoms and try not to take it long term. As believe me I know how addictive it can become. Have a word with your GP if anything concerns you.

Not everyone metabolises codeine in the same way. Codeine itself has to be metabolised into a different thing before the body can use it. Some people do this very rapidly and need very little codeine for it to work, but it can wear off quickly. Other people don't metabolise it very quickly at all and are known as slow metabolisers and not only does that mean that people think a low dose isn't working, they often up the dose and take more. But because it is slow to metabolise you can end up with higher amounts in your system. Luckily most people are somewhere in the middle, but if you think you might be one of the other types of people it is worth having a conversation with your GP about it.

Yes!

My mum had to be admitted to hospital because her reaction to cocodamol was so severe. She had dementia like symptoms on an ordinary dose. Don’t know your age but the risk of this sort of effect and the kind you mention are greater for older people.

My mum was put on tramadol instead, which is as I understand it a similar drug produced differently, and is more benign in the respect of these kind of symptoms.

Maybe ask your GP for a substitute for cocodamol so you don’t have these reactions. Take care and all the best for the future.

I take prescribed Co-codamol for severe backache. When I used to take Tramadol, I was walking on the ceiling, after just 1 tablet.CC, at bed-time, also gets me off to sleep. Haven't had any side effects. I take about 3 a day. We all react differently, I guess.
