It is my opinion that you should be very careful when dealing with back issues. There are so many things that can happen to the back that can. Never be reversed. I was shocked to see that you are going to a chiropractor. Have their manipulations helped you? Or hurt you?

I went to a chiropractor years ago when I first hurt my back. I am CONVINCED she made things worse! I then saw an osteopath and he was excellent and really helped. I think so much depends on the person that treats you and how knowledgeable they are. Have also been treated by a physio and she also helped but not as much as the osteopath.

Sadly I have since moved so cannot see osteopath and am wary about seeing anybody else in case they make things worse.....!

Hey AG900 I saw a guy once for acupuncture (he wasn't my usual as I had also moved) - he did exactly the same he got a towel put it under back of head then twisted my neck / boy I was unable to move my neck afterwards for quite a long time - hence I've never gone back just lived with what I have - spondylosis.

Grace. I think there are misconceptions about what chiropractors do. Manipulation is one but acupuncture, stretching, massage and advice about appropriate exercises are just some of the things offered. chiropractors are highly trained or should be. I found mine through word of mouth and so many people praise her highly for both short term injuries and long term conditions.

I've seen both physios and her for my back problems. The physios did not help. She has given me a long term programme to try to rehabilitate my body so that some sort of life is possible.

I am well aware of exactly what chiropractors do. As I said in my post "it is my opinion that ..."just look at at the post fromToolie, it is a good example of what I am talking about. When you have nerves and possible spinal cord involvement in your problems, it is not wise to have a chiropractor manipulating anything as it could cause paralysis. As I said, just my opinion.

I totally agree. You really need tom know exactly what is wrong, whether it is mechanical only, degenerative joint issues or nerves or any combination. It is therefore always necessary to have an MRI 1st before ANY treatment begins

As I said in my previous posts, you are taking a chance any time you have manipulations with any part of your back, including your neck. Acupuncture is fine, but it will only temporarily relieve your pain. It is costly and you have to go back weekly. And again, just my opinion, not worth the cost in the end.

Yes you need to be very careful with chiro maninpulation in my opinion having very bad experience with one in the past. I also found they were very happy to offer many vitamins that were now looking back very dubious. I still have many of them in my fridge and I dont think they did a thing for me but certainly cost a lot! I have been through just about all the medical specialists and alternatives to the point of recently having a Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulator inserted two weeks later it seems like the pain is worse or at least just as bad! I had the trial but as its only a week its hard to tell as the surgical pain is still around. I can now feel that old familiar pain on my right flank (not ever diagnosed but my best bet would be neuropathic pain!). It has taken away everything and my search for just some pain reduction let alone a solution has been completely unsuccessful in fact I probably worsened it. Its like banging your head against a brick wall - I would not like my worst enemy to go through what I've had. And now at the age of 33 it feels like my life is essentially over.
