Hi - I'm afraid this isn't a drug I have any knowledge of so I can't help you specifically, but have you talked to your doctor about this? Your doc might have an alternative to suggest you try. Or they should be able to help you "wean off" it. I guess you need to somehow "wean off" slowly rather than just stopping using it - as with all strong pain meds. My advice would be to speak to your doctor about this. If your doctor won't help, might a pharmacist be able to advise you?

I was on a lower dose of Butrans combined with other meds. I started to become red and ulcerated where the patch was caused by the adhesive so had to cease using it.

You could go down to a 5 mg patch first perhaps with something to help with break through pain and then when your body is used to that stop the patch and substitute another drug. I believe there are other patches as well which might suit you better. You really need to discuss this with your GP or Pain Clinic good luck with it.x

I had the exact same experience with the Butrans patch which was regretful because it worked really well for me. I liked the fact that it metered out the dose and prevented breakthrough pain. I only wore it four to five days at a time because I metabolized it rather quickly and would have breakthrough pain if I left it on the full seven days. My skin couldn't take seven days of it either.

I developed an allergy to the adhesive and my doctor prescribed Clobex spray which really helped heal the hives and irritated skin. He also prescribed buprenorphine tablets which is the oral equivalent to the patch. I am still taking buprenorphine to this day. I take a very small dose (2mg) three times a day and for me it's very effective. It would be easy to use if you wanted to titrate off of it all together or if you wanted to take the oral equivalent and continue the therapy.

Best of luck-
