Hi Malcolm. I had my coccyx removed in 1987 . I had suffered with terrible pain and had many steroid injections, physio and MUAs. I had to lie or sit on a 4 inch foam cushion for perhaps 15 minutes at a time. My local NHS hospital would not carry out surgery, but I had a referral to an RAF hospital in my area and the surgery was carried out there. I have to admit the pain was pretty bad afterwards, but with help from my GP and perseverance , I coped. It took nearly 2 years to settle completely, but I am still glad I had it done. Of course, since then, I expect new techniques have made surgery much better, so the pain is probably better controlled. I wish you well if you go ahead. Good luck.

Just curious... What led you to have it removed? If you don't mind me asking.

Seems extreme but I suffer from coccyx pain occasionally. GP just took a note and gave me a kind of 'oh ok' response. My pain is no where close to thinking it needs to be removed so just wondered where yours started.

I had mine removed in 1971 6 months after my son was born by forceps It made no difference to the pain and was one of many procedures I had over many years in 1991 I had a spinal implant which has made mympain bearable for the most part

I take amytriptiline Meptid I attend a pain clinic in Leeds I have got neuropathuc pain as a result of all the tearing during my delivery

All this has impaired the quality of my life and very much restricted my activities I suffered deep depression and became anorexic going down to

I eventually made the decision that I lay down under my pain or tried to get on with my life It is not theblifebI expected to gave it wanted to Itnus far from ideal but I do what I can Sadly my husband died 19 years ago and that loss was another terrible event as he took some of the burdens from me I know life is not going to change in relation to my pain but I muddle on Pain us not seen so people don't understand and would they want to know me if I were always moaning My depression improved greatly after the ECT and the anorexia I recovered from after about 10 years Tgevpaib was not going to go so I just had to get on with it

You have been through a heck of a lot.and your right people don't understand when any of us have to put up with pain everyday of the week.there's a lot of prejudice especially when others make comments about you.Have had a few but not said to my face.

I contracted vasculatis in 1996 which was really tough as I hadn't been ill before then.that's a hidden disease have ended up with other health problems since then but try not to let them rule my life.I'm under the lupus clinic at guys. And now help out when I can with the charity
