How many CT scans are safe? I have had 8 in 15 months. I am worried about the radiation exposure. How much radiation is still safe?

Hello,

I was v concerned about this during diagnosis, treatment and after-care. The doctors in the oncology dept seemed bemused by my concern (as they were by my wish to have as little and as low grade chemo as possible). I had a scan on diagnosis, and another after surgery, another after chemo, and one a year later, and one at two years. Now they have started to be more concerned and did not order a scan at 3 yrs (just coming up). I was ultimately grateful for the reassurance after 1 and 2 yrs - now I'm happy to never have another!!!

The best source of information I can find on the web is:

europeanscanning.com/pdf/ra...

Very best wishes,

Isadora.

Thank you, Isadora,

I am having a hard time whether to stay on the clinical trial receiving Avastin every 3 weeks. The trial protocol demands a CT scan every 3 months for 3 years after end of chemo, then every 6 months for the next 2 years, then annually. I have already had so many in just over a year's time because of complications during surgery and chemo. Thank you for the website, I am going to check it out right now.
