Gosh Sara dont know, I thought it was for epitheliel cell, but I would be very happy if it was as thats what my last tumour was (clear cell).

Dear Sara

I don't think it is known whether Avastin is particularly good for a specific type of epithelial ovarian cancer ( of which clear cell is a type) so you would need to discuss this with your consultant to see if it is appropriate in your particular situation

Hi Sara,

I wa offered a trial of Avastin specifically because I had clear cell- this was 3yrs ago and they were looking to find out whether there were any benefits to giving avastin alongside first line chemo for clear cell rather than chemo alone (they also looked at other cell types). I didn't take it as I was early stage and thoughts the benefits outweighed the side effects in my case, but interim results of the trial are out now and may give you some clue as to how effective it might be- don't know whether you have had first line yet or not. Just google ICON 7 trial. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi Polly and Ruth

I got really confused by the answers on here, so I dug out my old ICON 7 stuff (I did trial in 2009) and it def says adding bevacizumab to chemo in pts with epithelial ovarian cancer on my blurb, so now am very confused.

Hi Sue,

Clear cell is a type of epithelial cancer- there are several different tumour cell types within that group of epithelial ovarian cancers- clear cell is one of them. I know that ICON 7 wanted ladies with clear cell tumours to join the trial as it is a rarer cell type and can act and respond differently to chemo from other epithelial cancers (oncologist blurb!). They did also look at the other tumour cell types too. Hope this helps and you fish out the info you need from the trial results.
