My mother 's Ca 125 had a huge Spike from 2.74 last november to 11.42 at the begininng of May. CEA went Down instead. She changed Lab and this new Lab has a different range, the previous One used 0-21 and this One use the usual 0-35. She also had a ct scan , absolutely clear. She had , 15 days prior bloodwork, stomach pain and vomiting , but Just for One day. I dont know what to think, im terrified. She s in follow up since 2021.

Hi Belindajames

CA125 can rise for a number of reasons including infections or inflammation unrelated to cancer. It’s possible that your mother had a stomach upset that caused the increase. It’s very positive that the CT scan was clear and that her CA125 is within what is considered to be the ‘normal’ range. I hope that your mother is feeling a lot better.

High ferritin can also be due to inflammation or infection. I know that it’s scary for both you and your mother. Has your mother any further appointments other than her regular follow-ups? I hope that you can still enjoy this weekend despite the worry. Sending you and your mother big hugs.

Hi Belinda

I would say that if you have changed labs with a different range then you really can't compare the two levels. Also, if your mum had isolated vomiting and stomach pain, she may have had an infection or other inflammation which could definitely raise her ca125. I had the same, vomiting and stomach pain for a few days (partial bowel blockage from incisional hernia) and my ca125 went from 11 to 18. Then it came back down. It's not clear what is happening with your mum of course, but I would say the rise could be for a lot of reasons unrelated to cancer. Wishing you and your mum well x

The day after my sickness started my level was 11 then 5 days later it was 18 then 2 weeks later it had come down to 13 - then a month later down to 10.

Bless you, I can hear the panic in your voice & I'd imagine for your mum too. It's so difficult to stop & take a deep breathe at a time like this, but if you can do it & practice ongoing it is definitely beneficial. I use an app called CALM on my phone. Possibly its a feeling of losing control, but in reality you can't change what's happened only how it affects you. With a calmer mind hopefully you will see a more balanced perspective as like others have said there can be other reasons for a raised level, and also be able to support your mum and give her reassurance which I am sure you would really appreciate. Sending love & strength to you both 🤗 xx

I agree with Carpe Diem about the lab switch. You’re comparing apples and oranges. I’ve never heard of the 21 point scale. It’s always 5-35. Ask the oncologist for a scan. But don’t worry too much.

Ct scan already made and clear.

That is not a huge rise and it is well within normal limits (normal is up to 35). If it repeatedly doubles or goes into the hundreds, that's a different matter, but such a small rise is negligible and at worst down to the stomach upset.

That is still a very low Ca125 and with a clear scan it is likely fine. I would ask for a repeat sample to check if it is an increasing trend. Although it is worrying when it changes it can as other’s have said be due to other factors and the lab change may also be measuring it differently.

Is hope you Mum feels well.
