Ovarian cancer statistics

I think I might be on the wrong page. I'm trying to find out survival statistics for various OC types and stages by hospital.

Does anybody know who/what I approach for a freedom of information search?

Cheers

Personally if it were me, and this is for you l certainly wouldn't look at statistics. Believe me when l say there are a lot of people who live an almost normal life l was dignosed with stage 3 serious ovarion cancer and already had a brain tumour managed with a proggramable valve in my head. And l asked the question how long have l got and you know they honestly don't know . My husband was given 3 months with pancreatic cancer more than 30 years ago thank god he's still here helping me. So l honestly dont take notice of statistics. I say make the most of things get the best possible treatment, get second opinion when necessary if your not happy. Im nearly 6 years in to the journey and doing ok. In fact the lovely teal sisters on here know my motto keep buying the frocks & booking the flights ✈ which incidentally were going on tomorrow totally fed up of the weather and cancelled hospital appointments. Ive got quite complex surgery when we get back so fingers crossed 🤞 that it happens on the 17th Aug. I once googled for my brain tumour and frightened myself to death 15 years later

Im absolutely fine thank goodness . Stay positive and try and do what you can. Love SheilaFxx

Hi. I totally agree with Sheila. You will find statistics on google, many outdated, but you arent a statistic you are you. I was diagnosed stage 3b HGS OC in Oct 2007 and given 2 years, still here despite 2 recurrences, currently 10 years (next month) albeit on a parp inhibitor and my mum was diagnosed with stage 3 OC and given 5 years max and lived for over 14 years. My dad had lung cancer at aged 49 and was told prognosis was not good. He passed away a week before his 82 birthday. I dont believe in statistics.......

Hi. Are you recently diagnosed ? What information do you have at the moment that they’ve given you?

I echo the reply by Realistic; you’ll drive you’re self mad trying to figure it all out, but it is something everyone does at first.

Statistics for any disease are based on an average, so it’s difficult, if not impossible, to gauge your own health from statistics.

Can you share a bit about what’s happening, maybe we can help a little?

I don't know how to do what you are trying to do, so I can't be much help. But I can see that hospital statistics would be so useful when considering second opinions and treatment options.

I think I read somewhere that outcomes are generally better at the specialist hospitals, which makes sense. I wonder whether searching for trials might indicate specific cancer type expertise?

Hi, I'm not sure this data is collected let alone available. Gynae cancer seems to lag a bit behind some other cancer types such as breast and bowel in terms of standardisation and audit. A national audit is still in its early stages. The pilot is available here ncin.org.uk/cancer_type_and... I don't think it has the level of detail you're looking for.

It's true that statistics don't work well on an individual level, but it's also true that valid comparisons are important not just for patients but for clinicians too. Let's hope things improve! X

some of the work done on the OC audit feasibility study was done by geography. I’m not sure it will be to the level of detail you are asking for though.

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. All appreciated. I know we're all different and survival stats may bring us down but I also like to know what I'm up against and what I might be able to do to improve my chances. xx
