I've been back and forth with my gp and gynaecologist since November 2019 due to a lot of symptoms which I and the gynaecologist believed to be endometriosis. Multiple scans showed a cyst on my left ovary which they said was fine and would go away, last 2 scans it wasn't mentioned and I believe it had gone. Fast forward to just under 2 weeks ago and I see a new gynaecologist. She done a ultrasound and found a 5cm cyst on left ovary. She checked all my previous scans and found it is the same one and has been continuing to grow. Then I get referred on urgent 2WW for CA125 and MRI. I had the bloods done over a week ago and MRI yesterday. I'm super anxious about the results and don't have a timeframe in which I will get these. Just wanted to ask everyone else's experience on how long the results took.
Thank you

Hello there and sorry to hear you are worried, hopefully this will turn out to be nothing alarming but it’s good that your new gynae is being thorough. Are you not able to ring to ask for your CA125 result to give you some peace of mind whilst awaiting the mri?
In my case my gp rang me the day after my bloods to tell me mine was very raised so I knew there was cause for concern, but what I’m saying is they should really call you to update you, especially as your mri results might not be back for weeks. Something I’ve learned in my situation is that we often have to push, challenge and follow up with the doctors/hospitals a lot of the time, so why don’t you give them a call.
I’m sure all the ladies on here will agree that the waiting is so difficult, but hopefully you’ll get some reassurance soon, do let us know how you get on,
Thank you so much for your reply. I gave in earlier and called the medical secretary hoping to ease so of the anxiety. I was told she would have a look and as long as there was no concern would be able to let me know, however she said she could see results but would get the consultant to give me a call back. That was at 3pm and it is now 8pm and I've not heard from them. I keep reminding myself the consultant will be busy and have other patients to see and talk to. But this has made me even more concerned. I'm really trying not to Google things but I have family history on my maternal side of breast and ovarian cancer so it's all very worrying.
I feel blindsided as it hadn't crossed my mind at all which is silly considering the family history.
As you will all know yourselves the waiting is horrendous and what has only been 2 weeks tomorrow feels like months of waiting and sleepless nights.
My partner has brought me a journal for me to write in but I've not managed to write anything until here today.
I really feel for you and it’s terrible the way they keep us waiting, our minds go into overdrive and I know exactly how stressful that is…why don’t you call again in the morning explain how anxious you feel and your family history etc, and that you’d really appreciate a call back tomorrow (otherwise it’ll be next week and more days of worrying)…alternatively if you can somehow put it out of your mind (not easy I know) and plan some nice treats, trips out etc to distract you over the coming days. Many of us on here have been there but stay hopeful, it’ll hopefully be nothing sinister and you’ll get answers very soon, thinking of you Xx
The results tend to take as long as the results take unfortunately. It’s often not that they haven’t got them (my hospital can turn bloods and CT results around in 2 hrs) but they want to discuss them at the multi disciplinary team before talking to you.
It might be best to try to give in to it and focus on doing little things to keep yourself going. Small treats, writing out how you are feeling, having a good cry… anything that helps you get through.
Don’t forget that you can call Macmillan or the Ovacome helpline, you don’t need to wait for a diagnosis… they know how hard it is to be waiting to know. xx
Hi, I'm sorry you've been messed about, I also had a phone call off the gp the day after my blood test to say my CA 125 was high so maybe the fact you haven't heard is a good news thing 😊 try taking the positives, and ring the gp and ask for your results. Good luck x
Thank you for all you're replies. I have been working and unable to update.
I had a voicemail this morning to say my bloods are normal but didn't say what they were.
I have since received a letter stating I have a multiloculated 5 x 2.5 x 4.1 cyst on my right ovary. And although the bloods are normal they are waiting on the mri results still.
I am feeling a bit better that the bloods are normal and they are moving forward with both laparoscopy and cystectomy (which may change upon mri results).
Thank you all for you kind words and encouragement x
