Hi patricia54053, good luck with Niraparib. I hope it works for you. Are you on a trial as I thought that if one Parp didn't work then no further Parp's could be started? thanks, sticky3006.

I was just told because olaparib was affecting my kidneys they would try niraparib instead. ,mind, you I have questionaire to fill in every 2 weeks. So could be a trial ,when I go to see my oncologist I don't remember half of what they tell me 😀,either chemo fog lol or getting very forgetful

Good luck with Niraparib Patricia. I’m amazed they’re offering another parp I was told if one parp didn’t work you couldn’t be offered another one. I’m pleased for you and wish you every success.Love Angela x

I was told the same - one PARP only. Strikes me as a bit nonsensical actually because they have slightly different side effects but apparently, those are the NICE rules. I've been on Niraparib and had to move onto the lowest dose unfortunately. It worked really well in lowering my CA125 at the higher dose, but at the same time put my blood pressure and heart rate up to dangerous levels which were not controlled by various BP/heart rate drugs, so I had to stop and then restart on the lowest dose. I did ask if I could be switched to another one, but they said no, its one PARP option only...

I'm glad they're monitoring your BP - no one monitored mine or mentioned it might be an issue, I just happened to check it one day at home with my own machine because I'd had a headache and a pounding sensation in my ears for a few days. I swear the BP shot up again after I saw the reading, I've never had a problem with BP in my life, its always been low, so to see a reading of 189 over 119 was a real shock... Its still raised on the lowest dose, but not so high as it was... Hope it works, good luck with it...

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your post Patricia 54053.

I just wanted to send a quick message as we noticed a number of comments around whether people are given a second PARP if the first one hasn’t worked.

Currently people aren’t usually given another PARP if the initial PARP doesn’t work, but there is the OREO trial looking at retreating with Olaparib so this may change in the future. You can always speak to your team about available treatment options for you.

clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...

Teams can also try a different PARP if it is to see if side effects are more manageable with a different PARP. This is because the various PARP inhibitors work in a similar way, but have different side effects associated with them.

I hope that helps. Please do get in touch with the Support Services team if you would like some more information about this. You can send us a message on this forum, call us on 0800 008 7054 Monday to Friday 10am-5pm or email us at support@ovacome.org.uk.

Best wishes,

Cathryn
