Recurrances

I had a recurrence just after 6 months first time, after 6 carbo/paxlitakel but had not had surgery. I did ask if that meant I was platinum resistant but Doc said no. Since had 6 cycles of carbo/caelyx, then the op. Worrying that as remission said to be shorter each time that it wont be long before it starts again. It would be wonderful to be worry free for a while !

My dear Rosebine your just having one of those days which we all have. And it doesn't have to be that your remission gets shorter its just some things work better for certain individuals. So sending big hugs & so much love get your positivity hat on and keep fighting were all with you on that one. SheilaFxxx

I think the fact that you have now had the op, means that the circumstances have now changed. Jenny

Hi. There’s no telling how long it will be for each individual. I had nine months after frontline but now have been ned on Olaparib for 14 months and counting. It’s hard not to obsess about it but try to believe in your future, make plans, etc.

It’s much easier to be a rock for others than for yourself ( in my opinion). Hopefully the surgery will give you a longer remission. Such a rollercoaster ride isn’t it?

You’ve got this!

Hugs xx

So true that being there for someone else does not help when having a wobble yourself. Let's all hang in there together - we can do this.

Hi. There are posts that show varying degrees of time for recurrence in many different cases. There is vary rarely two cases exactly the same. That said, we all need something to reassure us and I am sure you will find that in this forum. There are so many other options for your oncologist to call on that may give you a longer NED period. As for worrying I tend to use the theory of 'Iam not wasting what time I've got worrying.' I have faith in the medicine and my desire to be well working together. Plan future events, a cuppa with a friend a trip to the park or family don't let you chattering voice of worry take over. It won't mean it's not there but your louder positive voice will be heard. Whilst I haven't gone into my own story I really di understand where you are at the moment. Coping with limited worry is where Iam at. Xx

If your carbo/caelyx worked to reduce your tumours before surgery, you may be eligible for PARP inhibitors, which can keep the disease at bay for a considerable time, as you need to be platinum sensitive, which your doctor has confirmed. I recurred just over 6 months after surgery followed by carbo/taxol in 2016, then had carbo/caelyx in 2017, which had what was called a partial response. It brought my CA125 down to the same level as after my first chemo.

I then went on to Niraparib which worked really well until September 2020, and reduced my CA125 even further, to the lowest it had ever been. Rising CA125 and a scan disclosed a new tumour, but my oncologist has kept me on Niraparib as it seemed to be keeping growth really slow, and she didn't want to put me on chemo again until it was necessary. I'm waiting for the results of a scan a couple of weeks ago.

Having a quick recurrence is probably more frightening than the initial diagnosis, but doesn't necessarily mean that you'll recur again really quickly - maintenance treatments are improving all the time, and some women remain disease free for a long time even without that.

Hope all goes well for you. x
