Hi Artyrose,

I had minor nose bleeds and a dry, blocked nose. Otherwise I coped very well with Avastin only.

The most severe side effect seems to be rare but it is serious, and that is perforated bowel. I had a partially blocked bowel whilst on Avastin (not caused by the Avastin) and was taken off it because of the risk of perforation with that condition.

Don’t worry unduly!

Good Luck,

Iris 🤗

Hi Artyrose, I’ve been on 3-weekly Avastin since April/May last year. When I had it with carbo and taxol I was very hoarse for a week afterwards, but on its own that hasn’t happened. I have achy ankles and tender feet, but hot baths seem to help, as does gentle exercise (counter intuitively). I also have a constant runny nose (which is driving me mad today!).

The only other effect is that there’s protein in my urine now. I had to do a 24-hour urine test last month to check that, but it was well within the acceptable level fortunately. Again, that’s a known effect so is monitored each time.

I hope all goes well for you!

I’ve had a few extra side effects since it’s been added to my carbo/taxol. Also had very bad nausea and vomiting..... don’t want it again!

I can understand that - but certainly for me I’ve had far fewer side effects from the Avastin alone than I did when I had it with carbo and taxol. I hope it goes well for you x

I have my 9th Avastin of 18 this Thursday. 3 weekly like yourself. Constipation has been a problem. I have almost got this sorted now. I take optimum dose of laxative for 4 days including treatment day and drink water constantly. My mucous membrane has been affected constantly seems like I have a cold. I have a very sore tongue. My blood pressure was affected too It went very high GP managed that with me taking my own BP readings 4 times a day and passing them on. got me on the correct medication eventuallyt seems to be stable now. I have general fatigue that has got worse and I am told it is accumlative which is very frustrating. Be kind to yourself and go with the fatigue. It's so unnatural not to fight through it but that really doesn't help. I feel all of the above severely for about 4 days after treatment and then they subside , apart from the fatigue. You may not get all or any of these side affects and I wish you well and keep my fingers crossed for you that you don't. Xx

Hi tillymint sorry if this sounds a trivial question after your list of side effects and what you go through but can I ask if your hair grows back while on Avastin alone ?

I wondered that too! Hope so x

Don't be afraid to ask anything in this forum. I certainly don't think it's trivial. My hair has grown back. That's been the odd thing through covid when hearing people moaning about hairdressers not being open. I didn't have to worry! Probably just at the stage where I could do with a restyle😉

Thankyou - I have had the above on my last 2 chemo, one with avastin the 2nd not as my Bp was up, so assume that’s the accumulated effect. Thank sounds doable xx

Hi Artyrose

I had Avastin at three weekly intervals for a year. I tolerated it well. Some side effects tho, a runny nose, croaky voice and aching joints, especially hips. They didn’t stop me doing things tho. All the best for your treatment.
