Hi I’m wondering if anyone out there had any experiences with reactions to contrast dye? I had it 6 weeks ago and have been left with neuropathy and all over muscle aches, can’t seem to find anyone who’s experienced this I don’t know if this is permanent or not any input would be great thank you.

Hi I did have a reaction to the contrast dye several years ago. I developed a rash and went extremely hot. I have not been able to have the contrast dye since. If you haven't done so already you need to report this reaction and certainly mention it before your next scan. I now have a barium meal rather than contrast. It doesn't mean that they can't see what they need to on the scans. Take care. Kathy xx

Hi Bex659

Personally didn't have any reaction to contrast dye, but a lady who was with me in the Chemo ward yesterday had a reaction to that, slight lump where they had put canulla in and possible leakage, nurses were dealing with that issue, may well be worth giving the hospital a call and speaking to them am sure they will help with issues you are having ... wish you all the best and hope it gets resolved.

Hi,

I experienced a reaction to contrast dye-hot and itchy all over. I was on antihistamine tablets for around 3 weeks. But recovered well since.

Was it like nerve pains though or just like an allergy type rash?

I react in more of a tired/washed out feeling. I'm not sure if its the dye itself or my subconscious thinking I've had chemo (same hospital, cannula, fluid). It starts a few hours after the dye and lasts for about 24 hours. But its a very similar feeling to the first 24 hours after a chemo treatment. Don't get the neuropathy or aches though.

I think I had a reaction once , about an hour after I went cold and shaky ,couldn't get warm ,my temperature was low but not in danger zone ,it fluctuated all night ,I picked up in the morning ,I've been fine since . xx

Diarrhoea is another side effect of the dye, which I often get. I count it as a good clear out!!!
