Sorry to keep moaning.

I'm so sorry I feel like I'm always whingeing. As previously stated I started second line treatment of carbo/caelyx last Thursday 11 days ago. I just feel so exhausted. I dont remember feeling like this for so long last time on carbo/taxol. I promised myself I would keep on working part time as I'm working from home now. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to. Has anyone else experienced this and did it get easier. Thanks.

I haven’t been on caelyx but I’ve been on Carbo twice and I wasn’t able to work during it either time. I took longer and longer to recover after each session. I was lucky to get sick pay so I didn’t have to work. I can’t imagine how I would have had the headspace or the physical energy to work. I always feel that I owe it to myself to make life as nice as possible during chemo and, for me, that does not include work.

Take good care of yourself.

I'm about to start chemo and pretty scared of it. I don't mind you moaning - I'm sure I will be soon. Just try not to tax yourself too much. Is there anyone around to help you? Hope you feel better.

Hi, starting chemo can be a bit daunting but you just need to take a day at a time.i think I ve added pressure on myself about working. We all need to be kind to ourselves during treatment. Xxxxxx

I have also just started this regime, and found the exhaustion lasted about ten days, before I started to feel a bit more energetic. I don't think the excessively hot weather helped. I usually have a little nap after lunch. You might find that helps.

Hi. I found carbo/Caelyx quite hard. My haemoglobin levels were knocked about needing a blood transfusion of 2 units and my magnesium levels dropped significantly so I had a few infusions of that. I was fatigued a lot of the time. Be gentle on yourself....

Moan/whinge/rant away, we are all here to listen and understand. Chemo is tough. Be kind to yourself whilst going through chemo. If Im being totally honest whilst I admire your desire to keep working I feel to give yourself a chance of quicker recovery from chemo and its effects then Id stop working and concentrate on keeping rested etc. I think at some stage you have to say enough is enough x Be kind to yourself xx Kathy xx

Morning, I was on the same treatment a while back and got to the point where I couldn’t function at all, and was feeling desperate and in tears.

I contacted my consultant who reduced the strength of the chemotherapy by 20% and it made such a difference.

I would advice you contact your consultant and discuss how you feel.

Hope you get some help and start to feel stronger very soon.

Hello,

I’m sorry to hear you are feeling so awful on carbo / caelyx, please do not apologise for sharing your feelings openly and honestly. We all need to do this and can do so here where there is, through shared experience support and understanding.

I have had 4 rounds of this combination and so far I am doing ok- ish. .My oncologist started me at 80% caelyx and explained this was to reduce my vulnerability to infection particularly Covid.

I really wanted to get onto 100% thinking it would be more effective . However after my mid-cycle scan which showed a good response (reduction in size) from all 3 lesions we agreed to keep it at 80% as she feared it would make the severe mouth ulcers that were stopping me eating worse.

I would repeat the advice to contact your team and tell them how you are feeling, there will be something they can do to help.

Also be kind to yourself and if you can let work go for now, maybe go back when you feel better.

Sending a gentle hug

Jan.x

I haven’t been able to work since I was diagnosed in 2016. Either feeling yuccy or completely exhausted.

I have just finished 2 line treatment, due to the time scale Of NED (nearly 2 years) I was able to have Carbo/Taxol again. First time round each cycle was a fairly similar pattern, bouncing back ok each time. This time the tiredness as Just lasted longer and longer each time, even to the point where I convinced myself come round 4,5,6 that my levels were not going to have risen enough for me to have my next treatment, but they rallied and I managed them all. The tiredness though is an absolute wipe out this time round. I too am lucky with sick pay, so have not worked during treatment. 4 weeks now since final cycle and find it so frustrating at how little I do and how exhausted it makes me feel. I tell myself, your a couple of years older and fighting cancer for the 2nd time so try not to beat myself up about how tired and weak I feel. (My magnesium was also low and I had daily powders)

So don’t say your moaning it’s a genuine concern. Stay strong and positive.

This group is wonderfully supportive.

🙂😘 x

Hi. I found the fatigue lasted longer with each cycle but in the first three cycles I was better by day eight or nine. However I was not working. I did have my dose reduced several times and I suggest asking about that. Be good to yourself and feel free to whinge! Xx
