I am in the UK and have my final 18 avastin dose soon. Has anyone had more than 18 treatments. It has worked well for me and I don't want to stop treatment of this marvellous drug but unfortunately I understand this is maximum number.

I had 43 lots. This was before the Cancer drugs fund stopped funding for Avastin to maintain after treatment for a recurrence. Xx

Wow that's interesting.

Hello. I have been on 3-weekly avastin for 5.5 years. In the region of 90 infusions. I am in Australia. I was lucky enough to sign up for an indefinite clinical trial; I believe most others had been 6, 12 or 18 months duration.

I hope you find a way to continue. Perhaps contact the drug company. Best wishes. Pauline.

Hi I trialled Avastin back in 2007/8 and the protocol is for 18 treatments. I would imagine that is why they are stopping your treatment at 18. xx

I was told that no one knows what the optimum dose of Avastin is...18 cycles is just a number picked at random and presumably with an eye on cost.

You can buy more cycles privately ( or at least you could when I was looking) but it’s an awful lot of money with no guarantees. Best of luck whatever you decide xx

I enquired about further Avastin after my course of 18 finished. I was told that this number was based on peer reviewed clinical evidence of the effectiveness of the drug.

Coming from a health professional background I have been involved previously with research into the effectiveness of various treatments and know this is done under strict scientific criteria.

I therefore was happy to accept that there was a proven rationale for the Avastin regime and I did not have to spend anytime worrying about it.

I have had more than 18. Dr when asked when can stop the treatment, as I am having some issues. Sounds like it will be life long. Mine is for maintenance at this time .
