Itching .

Ladies has anyone experienced bad itching after carboplatin , had carbo Tuesday, yesterday I started itching , continued today ,really bad at times ,want to frantically scratch ,mainly from shoulders to thighs, hip and lower back areas worse , I have taken an antihistamine with little effect , any advice .x

Yes I have. Little patch on elbow and sore patch which I must have itched in my fleet an outside right ankle which has led to bleeding and scanning. Not using anything perfumed on skin in bath, just a good moisturiser afterwards. X

Hi. I am currently on a relatively strong dose of Carboplatin as a single agent. Itching can be a reaction/side effect. Touch wood, I only had this reaction after the first infusion. Day 2 at night I had the most horrendously itchy legs from the knee down. I scratched so much I made them bleed in a few places. In the end as a last resort, I rubbed Bepanthen Antiseptic cream all over my legs, and felt immediate relief, although they still felt very hot and that burning feeling. Overnight this disappeared and the itching went. I am not sure whether this was because the reaction was temporary and went by itself, of if it was the cream. All I know was that after rubbing the cream in the itching eased. I live in NZ, but I see it is available in the UK. It is produced by Bayer.

However, if your reaction is that severe, and it is certainly more widespread than mine, , I would contact your nurse for advice first. (They are called Oncology nurses here, and I am not sure what the term is there.), Hope it comes right, and that I have not jinxed myself in the process by saying I have only had it once, today was my third infusion. I do feel your pain.

Thank you Therese , I will try the cream you used , it is available here , I have had the itching before but not as bad , I know my bloods are all OK as I only had them checked Monday , seems a little better today , hope you haven't jinxed it too . x

Third infusion done and dusted, and so far so good in terms of the itch, Not so good on side effects tho, feel terrible like I have the worst flu. The side effects have come in earlier, and this is the first time the have used the new port for treatment. I am wondering if because it is going into a main vein this time that this is the reason for my current misery. He also said on Friday that he has been giving me a strong dose, but with the state of my bloods , haemoglobin, red cells, platelets etc it is looking as tho he will have to reduce the strength or I'll have to have a treatment brake. How are your results going in terms of this? I was amazed that my CA125 went down from 207 to 32 after just two infusions. Therese

So sorry you're having such a bad time ,but how wonderful that your ca 125 has gone down so much , keep hanging in there ,its working. I don't know my ca 125 result until I go on the 23rd ,hoping for good news but not confident , my itch has just about gone after a week , hope you feel a lot better soon .x

I found Aveeno with oatmeal really good, I still use it now. Hope you are ok apart from that my friend.

Thank you , I have seen that I will try it , struggling a bit with post chemo symptoms. but know they will pass in a couple more days .x

I had an allergic reaction too.. I had horrible itching and my face around nose and lips swelled. Benadryl and some other meds like Claritin stopped the itching. Claritin really helped but you cannot take them together. I hope you feel better soon.
