Whilst I repose this p.m. with himself waiting upon my every whim, I am looking at the suggestion someone made for udder cream and the expected dry, cracked skin which the Caelyx may give me. I've searched high and low and have so many names now that I'm totally confused. There's Udderly Smooth :- Udder Cream; Moisturising Cream (Original); Foot Cream with Shea; Chamois (for chaffed cyclists apparently) with Shea Butter; Hand & Body Lotion with Aloe Vera and Vit E; Extra Care Moisturising Cream with Urea; Whipped Cream (oh no! that's for something else )
So, which is the best one to buy for our skin? All help gratefully received my lovelies.

Sorry I can't help with the choice of udder cream - but when I was on carbo caelyx I used Aveeno moisturiser which was recommended by one of the chemo nurses. At my hospital you could actually get it free on prescription! I was dismayed by the idea of red & peeling hands and feet (or red & peeling anything) so was pretty committed about using it - & had no redness, dryness or peeling. They do a shower lotion which I used as well. I looked at the udder cream on amazon but as a fairly squeamish vegetarian type was put off by the urea ingredient ......
I know you're in France so maybe Aveeno's not available there; I do hope you find something that you like and which works for you, (maybe the udder cream is that thing - I think the original prob. best as it has simpler ingredients) and that you find this chemo reasonably OK to tolerate in other ways as well as keeping lovely skin.
Hi Elizabeth. Thank you for replying. I always use Aveeno 55 baby sun block but it's so hard to get in UK so pointless waiting until we get there. Boots sell Aveeno products but not the sun block. Was told to stay out of the sun on Caelyx too - that's a bit difficult when our summer comes. I bought a large batch from US some time ago but having looked at the site today they don't ship to France anymore. To buy it here would cost 50 euros plus 5 for postage!!! I paid $13 in US with very reasonable shipping. Even sent some to my son in UK who works outside all the time. Hubby uses it obviously because of his skin cancer scares but it's proving a problem to find any without taking out a mortgage today.
Thank you for the heads up for the cow cream. I'll await the information needed to make a decision. I'll chat up my GP next time I see him and see what I can get for a freebie. Just looked at my prescription from the clinic and they've put vitamin B6 pills on it. Didn't know about that. Maybe that's to help something. Started drinking the papaya tea this afternoon for the blood and whilst it isn't the best taste in the world, with a bit of Stevia it isn't too bad. My bloods are really good at the moment but I expect to see them plummet soon. One good thing about coming off the Avastin, my joints are not aching tonight as they usually do for a couple of days after it. So, good news out of bad.
Udderly funny.... I. Got scholl cream and a very heavy duty cracked heel one ( need to check out name of producer ) and also aveeno as Elizabeth siad on prescription which is my default cream...its nearly all gone now I just used it for keeping foot as flaky clear and soft as possible..
When I was on treatment yesterday, Fiona - the excellent on site reflexologist who usually clocks me most times I'm there asked if I wanted a session.
I always beam my best and say yes that would be lovely thank you. A divine half an hour of floating elsewhere

Sad to say I didn't get my massage... but that's the main reason I keep my foot skin nice and juicy. Can't imagine anyone wanting to massage a manky foot!
Let me know what you decide on... apparently after 2 sessions of caelyx I had a classic red flaking foot - the left - right was OK. We're a odd bunch!
Oh dear Janet. How the heck can reflexology mean and emergency call out, especially if it's just a few feet away - oops! bad pun there. I would have been miffed too except I can't stand feet. I have no objection to hubby massaging my feet but I can't touch anyone's. I couldn't even cut the children's toenails when they were babies. I'm weird. My birth mother had horrible feet - bunions, corns, cracked skin, size 8. Mind you, I'm size 7 - well, she went to a chiropodist regularly and used to come back and swoon that this guy had cuddled her feet!! I couldn't even look at them. I wonder if she realised that he was a raging pervert. I do hope your feet are feeling loved and happy. Just don't send me a photo please.... xxxxxxx
Hi Krystal, caelyx is leathal on your hands and feet. I didn’t think much of the udder cream so the hospital keep me stocked up with PLIAZON (a regenerating moisturising cream) which is brilliant stuff and Aveeno hand cream. Be on guard for mouth ulcers/sores as well. Good luck xxxx
Suggest you buy the smallest quantity of each and enlist the aid of a local farmer. He'll just see you as an eccentric Brit and let you get on with it and you'll be kept busy rubbing in various creams into his cows' udders, thus leaving you no time to worry about anything. Before you start, make sure you know the difference between a cow and a bull. Keep proper notes otherwise you'll have to start all over again.
For what it's worth, I used Aveeno most nights and Udderly Smooth Moisturising Cream after showering in the morning. It's quite a big tub and you can get your hand in so makes the application quite speedy. Neither are greasy but I used them for weekly Taxol and I think the skin effects of Caelyx are more severe for most.
Hi Krystal, I use udderly smooth body cream which I got from Amazon, this was suggested by my onc nurse, I use it on my hands and feet and so far have had no problems, touch wood.
I’ve just bought some too as recommended. Lovely cream hopefully does the job! Felt fab last night before bed and organic coconut oil in my bath and after also on face I use as moisturiser has loads of good uses. Lucy Bee on Amazon. Lasts ages highly recommended! 5 stars from
I'm based in the US, so I don't know how readily available it is, but my mom has been using one called Bag Balm for like 15 years now, and swears by it. It comes in a little green tin. I do see it for sale at Amazon.co.uk but only through third party sellers. I even found it mentioned in a study as one possible treatment for the side effects of Caelyx (Doxil here), specifically hand-foot syndrome.
The study had said:
"Bag Balm® was evaluated in a study of 39 patients receiving various chemotherapy agents [25]. In this study, 13 patients developed PPE including two of six patients on liposomal doxorubicin. Toxicity severity in the 13 patients was grade 1 in four patients, grade 2 in eight, and grade 3 in one. All 13 patients applied Bag Balm® three times daily to the affected areas. Twelve of these patients reported improvement in appearance (photographs of the hands and feet at baseline and subsequent visits were obtained), Rotterdam Symptom Checklist assessment (for quality-of-life assessment), and objective grading of severity according to the NCI-National Cancer Institute Common Toxicity Criteria"

Hi Kryssy. I bought the 'Udderly smooth extra care moisturising cream (with urea!!)' when I was due to go on carbo/caelyx. As it turned out I didn't really get sore hands and feet but as my skin has been quite dry generally since being diagnosed, I used it occasionally anyway. It comes in a big tub and feels really luxurious so although it was quite expensive it was a nice treat. X
I've ordered a tub from eBay to be sent to UK free so it's there when we arrive next week. I've enough creams and potions to keep me going until then. My skin has been itching during the night. Not too bad but enough to wake me up. Now I feel sick but I did have gluten before bed. Stupid pig that I am. Steroid hunger I guess. Apart from that I'm ok but it's only day one. I can put up with anything so long as the bugger is being attacked. It's rather nice not having the avastin aches in my shoulders and back.
I’ve been on Carboplatin/Caelyx since January 2018.
Not suffered with dry hands and feet, but did develop quite a rash across my stomach and under my boobs (under the boobies looked as tho they’d had a day out in the sun!).
I found Udderly Smooth extra care cream with Urea to be really good, and also Sudacrem.
Good look with the treatment, fingers crossed 🤞 you don’t too many side effects. X
Hi Kryssy---should you decide you cannot live without the Aveeno here in the U.S. you can tell me the exact product you are in need of and I will ship it to you and I can't imagine the charges for shipping to be anywhere near what the on line store is quoting.
I did not get the hand/foot syndrome (the literature alone is scary!) but I did get slight discoloration where clothes "pressed" against my skin for long periods (like a bra or the waist of some pants). Great excuse to wear loose things! I finished March 16th and everything like that has gone away. Wishing you luck getting the correct udder cream but do not hesitate to ask me if I may be of help here in New York. ooxoxox Judy
Hi Judy. That's really kind of you. I've asked a friend who is on holiday at the moment in US that if he finds a Wal-Mart would he get me some and he said he'll do his best. But, he is on holiday and I don't want him wasting his time shopping for me, or even trying to find a Wal-Mart. If it all fails then I'll certainly take you up on your offer and if he succeeds then perhaps I could ask you in future when it starts to run out. We have really hot summers here and it will be needed and with us both having had skin cancer we get through quite a bit.

Hello Kryssy, I was on carbo/caelyx over a year ago and had to start again in January. My hands get a little bit dry but not too bad. I have Udderly Smooth cream but find Centraban is better. My worst symptom is breathlessness. I feel like a little old lady when I walk up hills. Probably because I am a little old lady 👵.

I used udderly original cream in a pot with pump and it was great - didn’t suffer from skin things and got a little lazy using it and ended up then partly losing a toe nail (!) but to be honest compared to the nausea breathlessness stomach pains etc it was not a big deal. Caelyx / carbo didn’t like me and sadly didn’t work for me - but some women have incredible results so be positive.

Thank you. Carbo did well for me last year but having the avastin with it was a waste of time because on its own it obviously wasn't doing anything. Putting all my faith in the carbo/caelyx combination to get me stable again. I know there's not a cure on the horizon for me but stable I'm happy with. Nausea is the pits for me. I'll suffer anything rather than feeling sick. I'm really tired today and just about managed my art and craft class this p.m. Going to have a really early night and see what tomorrow brings.
