Octopus : Anybody on the octopus trial with good... - My Ovacome
Octopus
I am on the Octopus trial weekly Taxol and azd2014. Have finished the Taxol and now on azd as maintainence (or placebo as its a blind trial). My ca125 was down to 16 at last appointment. Just had a scan a week ago but last one showed very little disease so touch wood this one is the same. I now take the tablets twice a day every day as opposed to 3 days a week. Very little side effects although it may be the placebo. Morag
What was your ca125 before you started did you have a lot of cancer to reduce xxx
My ca 125 was 900. This is my 4th recurrence. I was diagnosed at the end of 2007. I had srgery and was fine for nearly 5 years. Last remission before the trial lasted about 6 months. I had a large nodole in my left upper abdomen. Previous recurrence I had a pleural effusion which had to be drained however this time I had a small amount of fluid at the base of my left lung which went shortly after I started the trial.Morag
Sadly it didn't work for me. I completed 5 cycles of Taxol and Drug/placebo, didn't have too much trouble with it and it shrunk some tumours and reduced the Ca125 but as I filled up with ascites after the start of cycle 6 it was apparent that the trial was not worth finishing. I guess I wasn't on the trial drug but that is the nature of a trial. Have had a long term Rocket drain put into cope with ascites while we figure out where next.
Sometimes you just want to get off the hamster wheel and shout "Give me a break!!"
Good luck with whatever arm of trial you get on, it's such a lottery!
