If you are in the UK I would think things will move quickly but don't be alarmed. It's targets etc. You will probably have to have various blood tests and both internal and external scans. Fingers crossed thus will be nothing sinister. I had a 13cm cyst but my age (49) at the time made it an easy choice for me to have TAH and everything else removed. Thankfully mine was borderline so I needed no further treatment. Lots more ladies will be along soon with advice. If you can edit your post in any way to change the readers to just this group you will get more replies.

Keep us updated and take care.

BTW your ca125 is not particularly high - goes up to the thousands! Oh yes and take someone along to your appt with notebook and don't be afraid to ask ask ask! X

Hi Sophie

I'm new to this board & your post stuck out to me because it's so similar to my story in the way the cyst was found (to be honest, that's usually how they are discovered at our age.

I visited my GP with a very different complaint initially, but while there, I casually asked if I should be concerned that my husband & I had been trying for another child for 15 months, yet nothing had happened. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, so although she wasn't unduly concerned, she referred me for a scan to see what was going on.

When there, the gynaecologist discovered a 12cm x 8cm cyst on my left ovary, which showed as a solid mass. Based on the size, he took bloods for CA125 test & referred me for a CT scan to have a proper look at it. He also explained that it would need to be removed as soon as possible. I got my CT scan within the week, however we have private health insurance & were able to consult a gynae surgeon within the week of that. My CA125 levels were at 155. Please don't be too alarmed at this as it can be raised even if u have a cold or flu.

The surgeon felt my tummy & explained that the CT scan showed what look like a Dermoid cyst (dont google, they're ugly!!).

Based on my family history (no previous ovarian or gynae cancers), my age (31), & my lifestyle, it was likely to be benign or borderline. There was an extreme outside chance it could be malignant.

I think it depends on what happens with the scan results as to what they'll do for you.

I had surgery ten days later, a laparotomy because of size, & they removed an 18cmx18cm cyst along with my ovary & fallopian tube. Fortunately, my other ovary appeared healthy.

I got the pathology back a week later. It confirmed I have Germ Cell ovarian cancer. The rarest form with only 1% of ovarian cancers diagnosed as such.

That was on 16th March & I started BEP chemotherapy on 20th April. They had to wait for me to heal externally from the surgery 1st. I've just started cycle 2 & so far I'm responding really well.

I know it's easy to say, but please please try not to worry until you have spoken with the specialists. If you need info, Only look at legit uk websites for info, eg. ovacome, target, macmillan. Macmillan have a good guide with questions to ask the consultant.

I hope this has been informative for u & wish u all the best. If u need anything else, please don't hesitate to get back in touch & keep us posted.

I m suffering much similar experience...now u r ok ?

Please tell m about treatment

You've had really good advice - try not to worry unless and until you know you have got something to worry about.

Definitely take someone with you, but before that write down every worrying question that occurs to you.

You don't have to ask them all but it's useful to have them to double check with.

Do not consult Dr Google!

There are quite a few younger women on here.

Fingers crossed for you and let us know how you get on. xxxx
