Dear Elft, I'm really sorry to read you're feeling so ill on Carbo-Taxol. Have you spoken to your CNS nurse to see if there's anything they can give you to relieve the symptoms? It might also be worth checking with them, or the nurses at Ovacome whether you will necessarily feel as bad next time. It might at least help you get through it if you feel the side-effects might not be so bad another time.

Sending love and hugs to cheer you up. xxxx Annie

Hi Elft63

It's horrible to have to go through, but it's worth it in the end. I used to feel at death's door for 3 or 4 days during the 2nd week, then much better by the 3rd week. I think you get used to it once you know when to expect the bad days. It's important to tell your oncologist about any symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, in case they need to reduce the dose. I hope the treatment weeks will fly past and you will start to feel better very soon. Wishing you all the best, Gx

Hi Elft,

Poor you I send you my sympathy as I know just how you

are feeling. It effected me exactly the same and I didn't feel

well until the middle of the second week after chemo.Hope

you have got lots of help because really all you can do is

get lots of rest and lazy days in bed with books etc, if you

can manage to concentrate on reading. I also had terrific

pains in my knees and feet...so bad it made me cry.

My friends got me through the number of chemos I had

left. We used to go out for a meal on my good week and

I got lots of encouragement from them for the next

session. Do you have an appointment with your

oncologist the week before your next chemo is due, as

this is the time to tell them how you have been affected

and if your dose can be adjusted then they will try this

for the next session.

Sending you a hug (((((((x))))))

hope you feel better soon

Angie .. Such relief to know someone had the same symptoms as me .. I also get terrible pain in my knees , ankles and hips this usually comes after this restless leg and body thing I get .. It took me 10 days to recover last time , I like you cram everything in the good week I have .. I see my oncologist the day before my chemo every time so will speak to her thanks

Watch the pins and needles, and make sure the onc now s as taxol can cause permanent nerve damage to hands and feet. I felt like Ii was walking on hot coals after my second treatment, so he stopped it straight away. I still have problems with them now.

Hope you feel better soon.

Love n hugs

On my first paxi/taxol/carbo I too thought I am not doing this again agonising joint pain sickness constipation the whole lot, returned to onc. he could not make it out read my notes to see they had forgotten to give me STEROIDS he was livid with the staff, but he gave me much stronger anti sickness and constipation tablets. The next session so much better I nearly sailed through but the tiredness is unbelievable now finished all 6 sessions and in my fourth week still tire going up stairs or hills out of breadth, ok walking on the flat, sure they will give you something stronger to see you through your treatment, I really wish you well.love Jenny xxx

Oh dear poor you. The second time around is definitely worse than the first treatment, I remember that going downhill and I also had the nerve issues. Somehow the feet don't surprise you (by the way watch your step - theres a numbness too that you may not even notice but its enough to trip you occasionally) but the mouth thing doesn't seem logical and is so un ignorable. Do not ignore, mention to the doc as they can sometimes dial back dosage of taxol a bit and improve things without removing it from the regime

Hi....I think the symptoms you describe are pretty much par for the course, but you will get through it, even though I was told to report neuropathy I must admit was very reticent to do this as I didn't want them to stop the chemo, (so I carried on) I have had carb-taxol twice and on both lines my symptoms were bad, but I am still here and this was my choice, I am sure you can get help with the symptoms though...best wishes love x G x

Oh yes and I also got the tongue sensation too xx

Thank you everyone for replies , looks like the symptoms I get are what nearly all of you get , the pins and needles in my mouth is defiantly connected to the weird taste I get ( thankfully so far it goes aft a few days ) and yes I did notice this strange sensation when walking I have tripped on occasions . In a strange way it's a comfort to know others have done this chemo journey .. At the time you really do think your not going to do it again ..love to you all xx

I am sorry to hear that. I must have been lucky. Never really had a problem except for the metallic taste which wasn't great. Had six rounds 3 yrs ago. Then last year I had a reaction to the carbo on my second round. So you just never know how it's going to go. I have heard they are working with Manuka honey here in nz as a post chemo treatment. To boost your immune system. Will see what I can find out. Regards chris (I also have PPC 3 yrs this month since diagnosis)
