It sounds promising. It isn't clear if it could be used post teriparatide or if it is very much first line and for use at early onset.

Thanks for posting that. Pepiten has also been found to help obesity and other inflammatory conditions. It's a natural element of some proteins. I only recently realised I was not eating enough protein. It's a good reminder to me to stick to good quality natural foods.

Thank you for this post. Let’s hope it will provide a much better treatment or even prevention for osteoporosis and muscular skeletal diseases. The drugs used at the moment are toxic and do not replace bone strength and flexibility. Also one has to be on these drugs for life, replacing one with another. They have serious side effects. They are not really helping. Patients are used as guinea pigs. So let’s hope this research will provide a sound treatment for people suffering with osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis and similar muscular diseases.

Thanks very much for sharing this article. I've been hearing about peptides for various conditions recently. Always good to hear about research developments, even if they are years from resulting in widely available treatments.

Although this is interesting research, it is long way from an actual treatment.

"The latest research, published today in Cell Reports Medicine, show for the first time that PEPITEM could be used as a novel and early clinical intervention to reverse the impact of age-related musculoskeletal diseases, with data demonstrating that PEPITEM enhances bone mineralisation, formation and strength, and reverses bone loss in animal models of disease."

There is other research on other drugs that has currently reached the clinical trail phase.

I wouldn't put off treating osteoporosis in hopes of a newer treatment that might not get thru all of the research and clinical trial phases -- or prove effective

Indeed, clinical trials are just that and they take years. Besides look at Denosumab, a clinical trial of 3 years with not a thought about the consequences of stopping the meds until Dr Lamy publications several years later in 2018 with millions of people already been prescribed the medication, now facing terrifying consequences. And yet, too many examples of lack of knowledge or adherence to the tight protocol Dr Lamy research has shown by the medical profession, and not just in the first line of care, sadly. The protocol requires total commitment and specific action by professionals to the timing of correct blood marker tests at several stages during the first 2 years of discontinuation, CTX, P1NP, ALP, NTX and more.

At the same time some of us have been told to be on a 10 years treatment, crazy eh? , and it is not a nice place to be because again, no studies on the long term concequenses of long term of the suppression of bone markers, ONJ is an example and you cannot stop the med if you need a tooth extraction, and your dentist, if in the knowledge of the med, will not like taking on the job.

My daughter is in the scientific research field of pediatric oncology. Her commitment to the meaning of her job is commendable and I am proud of her; looking at her, not once I felt that comments such as 'us are the guinypigs of scientific discoveries' are justified.

And yet, I am now in the denosumab trap, and it is not a nice feeling. So like many of us , I keep reading and hope for some good news. Sometime it is hard to see the positives.

However, do share any details of the clinical trials you mentioned above.

I would be interested to hear maybe something I have not yet come across in my searches for a future way out of the trap.

I am sorry but we are used as guinea pigs by some scientists. Why should they allow patients to be prescribed toxic damaging drugs like Denosumab WHEN they did not know the full extent for patients to be put on such a drug? What gives them that right?

Denosumab has ruined my life. I am not the only one to whom this has happened to either. .

Frankly none of the drugs that are being used to ‘treat’ osteoporosis are helpful. They do not help in rebuilding strong pliable bones. They should not be used. Big pharmas have invested in the research of such drugs so they have to be used…

What I find horrendous is that doctors still push these drugs on patients… looking at Denosumab, Professor Olivier Lamy actually made it clear it should not be used.

I am sorry you’re trap in that hell. None of these drugs are fit for purpose.

The research your daughter is doing is probably quite different.

I totally agree with you, it should not be allowed with the research we now have available to us. And should come with a planned approach and specific patient education well before even starting therapy, so to be involved with clear options on how to exit from this nightmare therapy.Instead we still hear GPs and consultants saying you will be on it for the nxt 10 year. And GPs not wanting to prescribe the most important bone markers which is rather unbelievable, resulting in inflicting a calamity drug for an already silent global calamity.

... Yes, very different field, high grade pediatric brain cancer, very dedicated, something I hope she feels proud of.

Hi. Pepiten studies have also been shown to help auto immune disease, obesity and just about any inflammatory condition. The new wonder drug which is a natural component of protein? I'm a bit cynical. Components of our food work together, minerals and vitamins work to maintain a balance. Upset the balance and the long term side effects or consequences show up.

// Great to learn about how parts of our food affect or work in our body. Isolate it to take in the form of a medication? In my book, safest just to eat more or enough good quality protein along with digestive enzymes for those who may need them.

// Peptides are being used more and more in natural treatments in Osteoporosis. They are basically smaller molecules than the amino acids which make up protein. I have started to use protein powder in smoothies when I'm not able to eat enough. However, I'll also include 4 or 5 different fresh vegetables in the same smoothie.

// Results from studies can be interpreted in so many different ways. They are conducted within quite narrow perimeters and it is easy to make conclusions out of context of the bigger picture. Studies show that protein from animal sources is more effective in bone building than plant based protein .... yet there are plenty of people who have vegan or plant based diets who do not have osteoporosis. I have to admit as a result of these studies I have started to eat more meat, fish and animal protein again. Will it help? Who knows?

// We are easily influenced by studies and media. For years I stopped using salt and avoided high salted foods. We are constantly fed messages demonising salt. I've never had high blood pressure but have suffered from low blood pressure long term. I actually fainted and had my first 2 serious vertebral fractures as a result ...and hey presto I'm told and learn that we actually need salt. Now I use Himalyan pink salt sparingly and thankfully have not fainted or suffered the horrid leg cramps and other low blood pressure symptoms since. I also know that salt or no salt was not the only factor involved. Recently I read that Himalyan salt is not the best and a different type is better. //

We do the best we can with what we have and live in hope. Positive thoughts being sent to all of you on this site. Wishing you well.
