Hi everyone I had my first injection of provia and I didn’t have any side effects but after my appointment with my doctor, she said normally nothing happens until the second or third infusion. And I am absolutely petrified. She said lots of her patients have done really excellent on this drug and she seen massive improvement in bone health. But in the same breath talking about fractures, thigh bones problems, dental issues. Can you give me some advice can you share with me any stories that you might have about this particular drug? Thank you so much.

Hopefully your doctor was warning you, not, rather belatedly, trying to scare you, about the risk of rebound osteoporosis if you were to stop taking Prolia? Initially we were told that taking one dose of denosumab and no more would not increase risk, but I'm not entirely sure this is always the case. I seemm to remember reading recently that even discontinuing after one dose should be done cautiously The way to reduce the risk of rebound osteoporosis is to make sure you always receive your prolia treatment on time - no delays whatsoever, even if there's a pandemic on. If you decide to discontinue it you must take another bone medication to prevent rapid loss of bone mass, again without a delay.

Denosumab does have a good record for improving bone density, but it is a problematic drug and it's a good thing your doctor is aware of possible difficulties.

As a matter of interest, what kind of results did you have from your pre-treatment DXA scan?

I started Prolia July 2019 and have not had any problems. My scores have improved but I do not have them in front of me to share. I have to say when I read the comments from other people it scares me but I’ve had no problems.

I have been taking Prolia for 4 & 1/2 years and have not had any side effects. Initially I wanted to come off of it but would rather take the twice yearly injections rather than a daily pill. I have had increased bone density results.
