Only had 2 Prolia shots; want to discontinue; will I be okay just stopping it? I have osteoporosis in spine and osteopenia in hips. I exercise, eat well and take a highly recommended supplement for treatment.

Unfortunately, after more than one shot of Prolia, you need to follow it with a relay drug, i.e. oral Fosamax or IV zoledronate for 24 months to avoid the potential for multiple rebound fractures. If you don’t, the chances of fracturing are 10-15%. Read this article on how to get off Prolia safely: researchgate.net/publicatio...

You need to be under the care of an informed and supportive doctor or specialist to manage you off Prolia.

Hi Shika1945, please do not miss your next Prolia injection without consulting with a health care provider who can prescribe you a follow-up bisphosphonate.

From our resource on FDA-approved treatments ... americanbonehealth.org/fda-...

Postmenopausal women taking denosumab should not discontinue it without beginning bisphosphonate or other medicine in order to prevent rebound bone turnover and to prevent rapid decrease in bone mineral density and increase in fracture risk.
