type fosamax in the search bar and you'll probably get lots of posts. I've been on it (weekly) for just 2 months and so far no side effects at all. I won't know anything about its effectiveness for 2 years since DEXA seems to be the only measure available in the US. My T scores are -1.6 in left femoral neck and -3.2 in L1-L4 spine. Go figure.

I took two doses of it a long time ago. Ended up not being able to swallow. Really scary! I'm now taking nothing.

Here is some basic information about bisphosphonates medicines, like Fosamax (alendronate) ... americanbonehealth.org/medi...

More here: americanbonehealth.org/fda-...

There is good long term safety data on the bisphosphonates; but as with any medication, there are also side effects. The most common side effects include muscle aches, joint aches, stomach upset or heartburn.

I’ve been on Fosamax for three years. I have not had any side effects. Just had my DEXa scan done and I have not lost any more bone in that time, which I consider a win. So far, so good. I will likely stay in it for two more years and then look at other options.

Thank You, Your handle is why I lean towards your info. I've refused meds for 15 yrs.Endocrinologist is suggesting Forteo but I feel more comfortable with Reclast.

Finally, after 15 yrs with osteoporosis and a current T -4.6, L spine ; -3.1 femur, I agreed to Reclast. Had IV (once a year) dose on Sept 20, 2021. Two days after dose, I needed Motrin once for chills and body aches. I could be considered high risk for fracture just from my numbers but I have absolutely no other risk factors. I had been treating myself with weights and Ca++ and Vit D. I am 69 yrs old and expect to live another 20 years. I doubt I could have taken any meds for the length of time I have had osteoporosis. I am glad I waited.

Have been taking it since Nov 2020 and no side effects. I follow the instructions and drink tons of water and then go for my walk. Good luck!

Took it for 7 1/2 months and experienced aching in hips and jaws. After learning of the possibility of jaw necrosis through an article about a woman who did I chose to stop. I began taking Strontium which I continue today 16 years later. No fractures.I do take additional supplements as suggested by bone health experts.

Is taking the pill at bedtime okay if on an empty stomach?

As far as I know it is absolutely essential you remain upright for something like half an hour after taking the tablet. You must follow directions to the letter.
