Yay, good for you!

We had hurricane Dorian heading our way this morning so I went for a walk quite early and got my 10,000 steps in before 10:30. Should have worn my vest!

Did Dorian do any damage at your house. I am in Texas and Imelda really flooded those poor people who are trying to get over Harvey.

How did things go for you, did you experience damage from Dorian? Fortunately we are far enough up the coast that damage from these tropical systems is never as widespread as further south. We personally were fine, although losing power for 24 hours we now live (first year) in a multi unit building with a generator, so it was possible to boil a kettle, check internet, read a book and even watch Bianca Andreescu win against Serena Williams, all in the public area of the building. But there was widespread damage in the province. Some areas were without power for about ten days and we still hear about new outages caused by weakened branches falling on the lines. The worst was probably damage to the apple crop, which had already suffered from a late frost this spring. Seems like a climate change emergency. No lives lost, but a fair amount of coastal erosion, some roofs blown off, and the infamous collapsed crane on a building site. Some nearby businesses are still closed there, and some people cannot even enter the neighbouring building to get their possession. Another thing which has raised a huge red flag: when our last major hurricane hit in 2003 not many people relied on cellphones and everyone had a landline. Moreover the landline phones didn't need the electricity grid to function. This time, the landlines that people still have run through fibreop cables which don't work when the power is out, and the cellphone tower battery backups ran out of power long before the electricity was restored. We've never lost phone contact before, but we did this time. Alarm bell - how do you call 911? You can't.

That sounds bad to lose power for 24 hours. Dorian had no effect on Texas and we me living in the center, neither did Imelda. I hope you still get lots of apples up there. Hopefully no more bad storms. The people near Beaumont have waste high water, with 43 inches of rain in a day, they are soaked! Stay safe.

How does your doctor code your scan so that your insurance will pay it preventative? I’m getting a lot of resistance from my insurance company and my HR who all say this type of testing is diagnostic and must be paid out of pocket towards my deductible. I disagree. We are both exercising to improve bone health and need to verify the results of our efforts so that we can continue or adjust. Pure definition of preventive in my opinion.

Hi Bethgomes, there is an effort in Congress to increase availability of DXA testing for osteoporosis. Call you senator and House representative and tell them to support the bill co-sponsored by Sen. Collins and Sen. Cardin!
