Sorry for a long post

has anyone got any advise for a first time mum who is struggling my girl is 3 months old was born a month early, she has reflux which is managed with gaviscon as per the Docters, my question is she is so unhappy most of the time she was a lovely baby happy and content and since vaccines and having her 1st cold she seems to be more sad,

I try to keep to wake windows 1-1.60 mins awake then try to get her to sleep that can only last from 30mins - 2 hours I cannot put her down it’s always a contact nap untill bed time then she sleeps fine in her next to me cot,

if I out her down in her Moses basket she will be awake with in half hour ( I wait untill she is asleep as she won’t settle herself on her own just lays and kicks her legs)

but when I come to settle her as she is rubbing her eyes turning away she will scream and cry even if we put her back down the ta to the point I don’t know what I’m doing I feel useless and helpless do I need to go to the Docters again? Is it just a phase I just don’t know

Hi 1st_time_mum. I'm sorry to hear you're going through a tough time. Well done for reaching out though. I'm not a health professional but I am a mum and I remember that feeling well. Don't forget that your baby's waking and sleeping pattern may change as they get older and they may be awake for longer periods during the day. If you are worried, certainly speak to your Doctor - or give Just One Number a call on 0300 300 0123 - or try the online drop in where you can speak to a professional one to one online via video call - it's every Tuesday from 10am - 11am and details are here justonenorfolk.nhs.uk/our-s....

As a new parent it's really common to feel the way you're feeling. Have got support of family or any friends with babies a similar age?

Thank you for your reply,

All of my friends who have kids had them when they was younger as an older mum i don’t really have friends with babysat of the same age, I have been to a baby group but felt extremely alone there as most knew each other already.

My mum and dad are close and I’m off to them today for help I have a health visit on the 18th.

My sister is close by but she is super busy in her days off and I don’t like to impose to much

I don’t know if it’s colic again as she is super happy in between these stages and kicking legs and chatting away it’s just when I try to get her down for a nap, but if she is up to long she then is screamy and sad which takes longer due to her being over tired I’m guessing

Thank you again

Hi 1st time mum. You are not alone in this feeling it's a very tough time, I'm also a mum but of two kids. My daughter is the eldest and never had any problems so when my son had the same as what you have described I went to the doctors and they agreed it was reflux ( I was like no his not bringing up his milk but I was told it can be internal and like heartburn)

My boy was on gaviscon, I could never put him down, if I did the crying was horrible, I had to adapt to just doing what he needed and if that was to cuddle him all day that's what I did. ( I got a sling to help me be able to do bits around the house or play with my daughter as she was only 3).

For me and I'm not saying it's the same for you but it was a time thing. The older he got the better he was. And when we ween him the reflux went away he wasn't ready for food till 8 months and we started reducing the gaviscon, we had moments where we had to up if again but had guidance from the doctors on this. He's a happy boy most of the time.

The doctors were good with support and baby massage is a good tool as that helps with the reflux. Or doing bicycle on his legs helps.

Sleep times were a little all over the place for us, but that's mainly because of our other commitments.

I hope this helps, but like Vikki said get in contact with just one number or speak to your doctors again, your her mum and mums know best weather 1st time or not.

If I can help anymore please let me know.
