1. What was the MOST helpful advice you were given in the early weeks following your baby's birth?

2. What was the LEAST helpful advice you were given in the early weeks following your baby's birth?

3. What do you wish you knew before you took your baby home from hospital?

I would have liked to know what exactly was wrong with my daughter when she spent only a few days in NICU following an emergency C-section. Nobody explained what was happening or why after the birth. All we were told is ‘she was in distress’ after being induced early because of pre-eclampsia. I still don’t know why she was whisked away when she was born and it still plays on my mind a lot.

I heard of there a thing called ‘birth reflections’ that you can find out more about your birth if you still have questions.

You can find it if you google it.

How are you all settling into life now?

We spent about 10 very long days in NICU. Most useful thing if whole time wasbbeing shown how to change nappies, wash, feed etc. As a first time mum and missing the antenatal classes due to early baby I had no clue. Least helpful thing was the pressure from staff to breastfeed. I struggled so much and cried so much as a result. Once we were home and I tried a bottle baby thrived (only reason we stayed in NICU so long was due to low weight).

I wish I knew to trust my judgement and ask more questions. Why were they doing certain things- the consultant tells you X will happen but confuse you with jargon at a time when you are do tired and emotional anyway
