Alkali-reflux problems after full gastrectomy.

Does anyone know ways of dealing with an inflamed oesophagus caused by alkali reflux rather than acid reflux?

Does anyone know whether there are surgeons offering a valve replacement between the oesophagus and intestines following a full gastrectomy?

Background: My husband had a full gastrectomy many years ago and recently had to have corrective surgery to deal with low motility. Since then he has had much worse alkali reflux than before and has an inflamed oesophagus. He coughs up lots of mucus and has difficulty swallowing (food and tablets get stuck in the mucus and water does not clear it).

I recently posted on here this problem. It seems to me the Dr's are quite unaware of the difference between acid and bile. See if you can find my post

Hi Judith,

Is the mucus cold/runny nose related. If so, sudafed may help. I would not know about surgery options.
