Yes I applied but couldnt even get a temporary one ! I was very tired on chemo and more so after surgery not able to walk far as couldnt manage without walking stick and resting after few yards etc but still didnt meet the criteria!.Some local authorities may have different rules though.I come from Nottinghamshire.

Thank you so much for your help regarding blue badge, it is so unfair and so unhelpful regarding any help for us people who have gone through hell and back again and most of what we want is temporay, a stepping stone back to a better health and a life again.

Hi, I applied for a blue badge and got one for a year, I could have done with it a little longer but they said no. I also claimed DLA allowance and I think that helped. Get your doctor on side

Good luck

Hi - I applied for a Blue Badge 6 weeks ago and have been given one I had my operation nearly a year ago now and have had constant problems with exhaustion and breathing. I cannot walk more than about 30-40 metres without breathlessness and feeling very very tired. Although I try and walk a little every day it does often feel an uphill struggle.

My local council were very helpful although I did receive a call from an independent person who asked me some straight forward questions.I got told they do not involve your local Dr. anymore as it costs money to ask for a report. I have found having the badge a great asset and improved my quality of life. Wheras previously I would arrive in a shop exhausted - once I was so breathless the shopkeeper phoned for an ambulance- I now park close and makes life alot more bearable. If you want to know more about my application I will happily give you my phone number. Best of luck.

Hello,

A suggestion that was made to me when applying for a blue badge is to write how you are coping on your bad days. We all have good and bad days, and it's on the bad days that we would want to use a blue badge to make the trip possible.

Regards,

Jay

Hi Hunsdon, My op was in January 2010 & yes I applied for a blue badge which they granted temporary for a year to start with & I applied for AA (that's for the over 65's , called Attendance Allowance; under 65 DLA) which I also received for a year but I did not apply for the AA again as I was able to do more things for myself, (dressing, showering & cooking etc.) but I did apply for the blue badge again which was granted & I now have this for a further 3 years, as like you I find walking the worst & I get tired very quickly. Unfortunately they have changed the criteria recently for Blue Badges & the application is numerous pages long to complete, usually favouring more for the mobility part of DLA applications but it will be worth trying if you are successful, & remembering to emphasis your bad days not the good ones!! At my time of applying my Dr was approached which helped enormously.

Best of luck

Jan

I didn't even apply for a blue badge when I had both legs amputated.

Sorry Free Wheels, I don't understand your comment. Everyone is different. Every disability albeit visible or invisable is individual and we all make choices relevant to our situation.

I think Blue Badges can be a minefield! My mother had one because she is registered blind, but blindness is a different category on its own for Blue Badge purposes. My father-in-law had less sight than my mother but he did not apply at all and did not even get registered as blind for many years. It can be quite an individual thing!

I think that different Local Authorities vary in how they interpret disabilities.

It wasn't a comment, it was a reply to the question: "Has anyone tried to claim a blue badge ..."

I'm not qualified to say who is or isn't disabled. I'm just surprised that's all.

I applied and got a blue badge for 3 years but I also applied and got DLA with the highest rate mobility allowance which qualifies you for the blue badge. Not sure how it will work next year when it moves over to PIP.
