Fundraising via Facebook

Does anyone know whether there already is a site for fundraising for OAP on Facebook? Today, I received a FB message saying it's possible to set up one. I'm no professional when it comes to IT and I don't want to meddle in something if there is already one in existence.

There is so little awareness of this dreadful disease compared to other cancers that I wondered how we could raise the profile.

By the way, I received my packs to distribute amongst pharmacies and surgeries and can't believe the bureaucracy involved! So far, only one pharmacy has accepted them (Lloyds in Sainsbury's). Shocking really.

Would much appreciate OAP's response to my query. Thanks, Kate

Hi Kate. Best you give Maggie, our Operations Manager, a ring on 0121 704 9860. She will walk you through things. Thanks. Haward

Thanks Hayward. I note from the OPA website that there is already a way to donate. What I need to know is whether OPA is a registered charity - otherwise I can't put it on FB. Is there an email contact for Maggie?

Hi Kate. We certainly are! No is 1062461. Should be, is, on the website. Reach Maggie on the enquiries email address. Or email me at haward@opa.org.uk. H

Actually Haward, I've already shared the info re OPA awareness month and the Fiona Wade appeal - and the wristbands. Having re-read this, I note there is a link to a justgiving site. Some of my friends have shared this further amongst their friends, so hopefully the net will spread wider - not only for donations but also to raise awareness. Kate

In the U.S. we have GoFundMe where you can submit your cause or need. There are lots of Brits here and maybe some would share $£, etc.

Hi Duchess! I guess you saw Fiona Wade's appeal on this site. I have copied it and shared it on Facebook and asked my friends to share it with their friends - so casting the net wider. At the bottom of Fiona's appeal and info re the wristbands, is a link to where people can donate money if they wish. However, my prime concern is to also raise awareness of this cancer so that more early detection is possible.

If you are on FB, perhaps you can do the same? I'm not sufficiently technological to enable me to set something like this up - added to which, my husband is in the middle of treatment and I have enough to cope with at present!

Thanks for your response though. Best wishes, Kate
