Hi.I am just over a year post op and yes I still burp.As time goes by it does get better as during first few months my burping was unbelievable and to be honest painful !! Its all to do with the plumbing being different inside.I learn to live with it and guess small price to pay as lucky to be here.Rest assured it gets better and isnt so uncomfotable.Hope that helps

Hi Griff, thanks for that information, the burping can at time cause a good laugh in different company such as my sons who thinks its great and they join in but my daughters just smile sweetly as do my grandchildren. But I'm glad to know that this gets better with time like most things.

Its a pleasure. Its great when there are sites like this to help.I needed help and advice in the early days and do now! You just cant beat it cos the help comes from those who have and are going through it.Another site is Macmillan which you may use.If not look for gullet cancer on the macmillan site

I think it might be to do with the differently-shaped 'plumbing' and perhaps a bit more air getting in than before?

That sounds strange but I guess you are right, when you talk about air and plumbing in the one sentence its like a DIY site (BQ and Homebase ect),sounds funny regarding the body parts, but I guess we have to have a sense of humour and plus some strengths.

I only had the op in Feb 2012 and I find to I`m burping more. At times its quite amusing as I want to burp but it won`t come then it does, but can be a little painful, no doubt once the `plumbing` as Alan says settle down things will be different.

The burping can at times be quite loud but I have noticed it more after I have had a drink than food, I had my op jan 2012.

I challenge anybody to beat my burping. Up to 8 burps one after the other! I find also that when I start to eat I have difficulty swallowing until I burp. Presumably lots of gas in the digestive system that hasn't come out.

With 2/3 stomach i also get the feeling of a big balloon in the stomach which takes time to go.

Hi medway, thanks for the challenge but I think I will give that a miss if thats ok with you. How long ago are you??

Hi Tina, I had my op in 2010 and I still burp, but it isn't as painful. I find I can open my mouth to speak to someone and I burp and can't stop i. It can cause some laughter at times, but can also be a little embarrasing like my last visit to the dentist when he had the usual assortment of instruments in my mouth when a very loud burp escaped luckily he knows my history:-))

Good luck with your recovery

Hi Edwina, thanks for your response, you did make me laugh regarding your dentist appointment. I am glad to know that things like burping settle down with time.

Hi I am just coming up to a year and I am still burping but it's not at all painful and sometimes it happens without warning.

I go for a ct scan on 18th and see my consultant on 27th, so am hoping for some good news.

It's only been 8 weeks since I was discharged. The burping is annoying. I too am hoping it's only temporary.

The other thing I find is I'm susceptible to back ache (presumably due to core weakness following surgery) and my voice gets a bit croaky at times.
