Does anyone else find that, post ivor Lewis, any ordinary illness also sets off diarrhea and gagging? I am 6 years down the line and have a nasty cold plus above. My tablet has 2 ways of spelling it. The only one I am sure of is runs! Am waiting for urgent endoscopy too as I have had terrible reflux and am on extra meds for that. Not a happy bunny at the mo but at least we can have a moan on here whilst also reminding ourselves we are luck to be alive and live is usually good.

I am 5 years post IL. I frequently suffer dumping (Diarrhoea) and indeed constipation when I eat the wrong foods at the wrong time. I have suffered multiple incisional hernias and now have pain after eating anything substantial and when taking regular lactulose to mitigate against constipation. It’s very difficult (not impossible) to maintain a problem free diet and any illness causes an imbalance due to dietary changes and medication (antibiotics, painkillers, cough mixtures etc) much of which is full of sugar. So yes I think it can be a problem when you are ill with other things but as with your endoscopy do seek professional guidance if anything untoward starts happening regularly. Good luck.

Thanks, good to know we aren't alone. I have had an emergency hernia repai whe my guts escaped into my chest. Luck to survive that one since it was a Saturday night and I had to be transfered from Burton to Nottingham for a surgeon. I also am waiting for a smaller hernia repair. My urgent endoscopy referral finally reached the hospital on last Friday afternoon 19th. Was originally sent on 9th at 2pm by email. Very glad I chased it. Seems it really is up to patients to keep on top of these things these days.

snap 🤣 mine was 3am when I reached the hospital and the on call surgeon got my surgeon out of bed as he didn’t want to touch a previous Ivor Lewis. My dumping has been atrocious since then and I suffer from gastroparesis, but you learn to manage your problems.

I’m 16 years post op and still struggle a little with bowels. I think any illness will play havoc with our guts. Have you tried any pro-biotics like bio kult. It does seem to help me.

You’re right though, it’s nice to be able to have a moan on here :)
