I am new here having had my operation in September. I am slowly sorting out my eating but not sure how to handle Christmas dinner with the family. My daughter will do the cooking but will I have to have my starter at breakfast time?
Any hints or ideas would be appreciated.

This is perhaps one of the biggest negatives that I've found post op. Christmas dinner and Sunday roasts are basically a marathon of restraint for me! I eat everything that everyone else does, at the same time....but much less of it. I have a good excuse to refuse the sprouts now.
I will go back for a little top up on left overs an hour or so later if there's anything left.
Christmas and eating out seem to be big hurdles for me and I’m not sure how to tackle them. But one course at time seems the best solution or little and often as I’ve been told.
eat with everyone else, small portions, pace yourself, don't be tempted by " ok just a spoonful more" because 20 minutes later you'll regret it, and avoid liquid and food. That's at anytime.
I must admit the temptation to take a little extra is probably what I will do wrong. But I’m determined to give it a go. Thanks for the good advice. I’ll try to follow it.
I think it is good to have a little break between courses anyway, not just for us but everyone. It’s nice to have a taste of every course but small amounts so you can feel you have tried everything and not just sat watching everyone else eat. Have a good Christmas. James.
I just nibbled and ate a very small dinner. On my first Christmas but I did graze all day. I also only ate what I really liked none of the filling stuff. So just the cheese and no crackers. Just some smoked salmon and prawns with sauce no lettuce or bread. Etc. remember to chew well And sauce with everything. Enjoy the joy the day I was 10 weeks post op it was a great day and I did drink small glasses of bubbly throughout the day have lots of fun xxx
I do like the idea of grazing. I’ve become an expert at it. I’m not sure I would have been ready for Christmas just 10 after my op. as I am just 13 weeks. I have had a small glass of wine occasionally (twice in 13 weeks). Part of me is really looking forward to Christmas and part is dreading it. I suppose it’s all part of the learning curve.
Good idea to eat the good food and leave the extras. Thank you for that.
When we have meals out or special occasions I just go for a little bit of each course. If in a restaurant that won't do you a child's portion just take a box with you for the spare, or ask them to pack it for you. Mind you it has taken me 5 years to get to this stage. I spent my 1st post op Christmas back in hospital. I had a dinner I couldn't eat and my husband and son had sandwiches from home!
