I had a Nissen Fudoplication almost 15 years ago. I believe I overate several months ago. While I’ve had anxiety disorder and have been on medication for that for many years as well. Since that time I’ve been diagnosed with gastritis and have had nothing but anxiety troubles with my stomach since that time. My question is what are the chances the NF surgery “slipped” or came undone causing my issues? I’m desperate for advice or help regarding this. Thank you.

NF surgery and overeating…
Anxiety, meds for that and stomach sensitivity is all collateral damage. The NF correction could be subjective in the outcome for variety of reasons, however the anxiety related muscle laxation in the LES could undermine the success of the NF to some extent, in my views.
It may be long term idea to become more blissful so anxiety and its meds and related issues are only resolved to mechanical muscular root causes.
in the meantime a routine endoscopy may be helpful.
I have just recently done an upper endoscopy which revealed the gastritis without bacterial infection. I’m currently scheduled for a gastric emptying test in a week or so. Hopefully it will reveal a bit more.
Thank you for your reply. I’ve seen you reply to other posts. I’m just at my wits end with nausea after eating and the anxiety that comes with it. I’m having so much trouble figuring which is causing which. 😖
Sorry to know of your struggles.
With delayed emptying if chronic and all other intervention protocols failed objectively then a bypass could be discussed.
Good that the gastritis is not caused by the bacterium.
However the nausea is direct result of delayed emptying as body will naturally try to throw the contents put from oesophagus if it's not going in the bowels naturally.
I would still suggest for resolving what is causing anxious state of mind without further chemicals/medications. The muscular response is very much controlled by the state of the mental health. This will affect coming opening of LES, lower sphincter of the stomach into bowel. The more wider spectrum the more sustaining symptoms, in ultra short term more and variety of meds xan be thrown in the stomach but with delayed emptying and more chemicals piling up, its evident that the stomach wall is taking the hit.
I hope you also manage your routine very well. If you need more information please also visit opa.org.uk
I had Nissan in 2018 . The best advice was given was watch what you eat , exercise and monitor your weight . Don’t go back to taking meds like Lanzoprazole as this ruins your insides . You are in my opinion doing the right thing with an exploratory procedure then go from outcome of this . I could write a dissertation about the negative affects of most drugs long term on internal organs but I think you are pretty clued . Accept any alternatives to long term drugs . For me it was the PARIS scheme which is a discounted gym programme with access to a go to professional based at the gym to help with diet , exercise and support . Group classes helped break confidence issues, swimming was relaxing and the gym diluted my why me ? Anger . Main thing is you are being seen by someone. Many of us are being ignored and are on crazy invisible waiting lists . I would grasp this opportunity to get help . Good luck
Since this post I feel as though I’m now on an endless waiting list. My doctor got the results of the gastric emptying test, which was shown to be normal, and now he won’t respond to me. Still dealing with the nausea doesn’t help the situation either. Extremely frustrating.
But thanks for your reply and insight.
Would start with a diary of sickness and how it affected anything such as eating / sleeping patterns . Go armed with this -give it 2-3 weeks to your GP and explain you are enduring rather than enjoying life . Diary does explain a lot without a busy GP having to wade through copious notes .
Fingers crossed for a posted outcome . Notes have been my saviour . I left my last lot with my Dr and had my draft at home . Whether they read afterwards- hmmm I am unsure but I feel the more seriously you take this then I feel they will
