Hi, I'm 7 years post op now and have had some issues with constipation but never on a regular basis. I Have been prescribed Lactulose 15mg twice daily but also what I do is keep up on fruit and especially things like prunes, figs and oranges etc and try to avoid 'binding' foods obviously. Keep up your fluids too which is one of the things we all do in order to fit more food we skimp on the liquids, I just keep drinking smalls glasses of water throughout the day which doesn't tend to impair my eating capacity.

Hope this is of some help as we are all different but then again that's how forums work, someone else may say something completely different and that works for you.

Good luck

Martin

I am over 4yrs past Ivor Lewis and my main problem is diahria. The only time I had bad constipation was when I was put on a lot of medication for anxiety about 3 months after op. Look at if any medication may be at least part of the cause. Good luck

Thanks grandylynda but I wasn't the one with the problem, I was answering 'von66' I actually have no problems with bowel movements at all these days but thanks for the concern anyway. Martin

Hi, I'm 2.5 years post op and have not had regular constipation. Diet, exercise and water intake will help, but if a constant issue I'd speak to your treating medical team. I was told to take Benefibre and Buscopan, which were helpful, but that was in reference to stomach cramps. Sure you can take more aggressive medication, but I'd suggest they are not permanent solutions...

Post op is a long journey, for which I wish you well...

any diarrheic dumping will follow with constipation if hydration, fibre content not restored. suggest increase Iron content in supplements and food intake as well. 8 month from surgery is very early for the stomach and digestive system to adapt to the new normal. this process will continue for longer time.

If you are taking so many medicines together, that can cause severe constipation as well.
