Hi, i am almost 3 years post Ivor Lewis and on the whole very well but do get bouts of feeling sick and at times i am sick, i mentioned this at my last appointment with my doctors and they said it could be the scar tissue causing the problem so am going for a endoscopy next week to see also having a swallow test with an xray.
Has anyone else had this?
I am 2 years post surgery and I take CBd with thc to help with my nausea.
I still feel sick quite often when I eat but I don’t feel nauseous all the time anymore.
If I miss a dose of the oil I start to feel sick to my stomach.
Eating is a real chore but I know we are lucky to still be here.
My 2 year endoscopy showed a spot that they took 3 biopsies from which were clear. Otherwise they say everything looks fine but the nausea And dumping syndrome are terrible leftovers.

Hi - I’ve suffered from nausea every day since my surgery nearly 6 years ago - with it being a new thing for you, best to get checked and hopefully the endoscopy will help - it could be the scar tissue at join or possibly delayed gastric emptying which is what the swallow test will be for I would imagine - all the best
Hi I am almost 12 years post surgery and still feel nauseous sometimes, though I have never been sick. I find that eating mint polos or ginger biscuits helps. This may sound too simple a solution so it is good to get it checked out anyway. Best wishes.
My husband 2.5 years lost Ivor Lewis feels very sick most days. He is never actually sick and it makes me wonder if he( his new plumbing) has the ability to bring anything up. We all know when we feel sick that once we have actually vomited we feel better! He had very radical surgery and left with very small capacity , do wonder if there is enough muscle to achieve vomiting. ?
Hi Has your husband seen or asked advice from anyone from his original team ie the specialist nurse? I don't know whether the new plumbing affects ability to be sick, I guess you could be right but also I suspect it wouldn't be good to keep being sick anyway. If you haven't done so already check out the OPA website. Does he feel sick after eating or all the time?
No, not always after food. Wakes up most mornings with nausea. Sucks a Ricola sugar free sweet which helps . As far as I know he’s never actually been ‘sick’ as we know it, which makes me wonder. We have a phone consultation very soon and I will ask this. 😉
I am going on for 4 years and still get the odd bad day. Not so much sickness as excess saliva stuff in amounts difficult to swallow. I find sucking sweets helps control this so now spend a fortune on sugar free ones for the sake of my teeth. The whole eating and drinking thing is an ongoing issue but I consider myself lucky to be alive
I am 11 years since IL and am 83 yrs old. Although I generally lead a 'normal' life, ie small meals, healthy diet etc I still get occasional un-explained nausea, saliva flooding and drowsiness I just go and lie down till it passes. It seems as if the normal digestive system slows down and blood sugar goes down, similar to a diabetic. I always eat something sweet after an episode.
Thats typical Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) symptoms within the IL survivorship. For most it happens when without food for long time and/or exetrtion, and alsmo for many post meals. You are managing ok by taking rest with sweet intake. Always carry dextrose tablets etc in all jacket, bag pockets, works as insurance.

The mentioned symptoms does more fit towards delayed gastric emptying and related issues.
The scar tissue in the oesophagus to stomach joint should not cause feeling of being sick. it would more like cause feeling like choking, difficulty to swallow, excess saliva build up when the scar tissue plays up, feels like you need to get upright etc.
Good to see you are getting Barium swallow test. Believe the GP has already done H pylori rule out, fulls bloods with B12 levels etc?
