Has anyone experienced choking sensation or anything negative with Gaviscon Advance aniseed or peppermint? ENT suggested Gaviscon Advance for LPR. I ordered it as it is not available in the US. Being that the odor is so strong and it looks so thick I swallowed just a tiny bit to try. It numbed my tongue for about 30 minutes and felt so thick going down my throat. It was literally like 3 drops only. I’m so afraid of taking 10 mls. Can anyone give me any input? People with sensitive throats or anyone who gets laryngospasms? Any negative effects?

Gaviscon Advance for LPR

Hi I have LPR as well and I take peptac, which I get from doctors, don’t know if it’s available in us , but it’s similar to Gaviscon advance, I’ve tried both and yes it is thick but that’s what calms the acid down , so keep trying with it because acid is terrible and can lead to more damage to the esophagus, good luck
It may be you just need to get used to it and take it slowly because it is a great product - the thickness really coats the lining of the oesophagus and throat. The tingly sensation isn’t very nice but I think it’s worth it.I find it lasts all night too. Peppermint much more palatable!
Do you sleep on a wedge pillow?
I can take it But before this I have a choking and find it very hard to breath.at the first I thought this is it no airwaves.I would stand in bathroom and say air, air .then someone said you can breath threw your nose.but at a time like this you forget all. I do lie at night on very high pillows about 5. wish you well. ps I had my app 13years ago now
Hello Butterbaby1,I've been taking Gaviscon Advance for 5 years now, four times a day, for LPR.. I usually just take it twice, as my meal-times are difficult to plan, and I don't like to take it just before bed-time as take most of my other tabs then, and it feels as if this is crowding my larangeal passage, as have phlegm/mucous all day long, for which I do a lot of throat-clearing..
So that is the only problem with G.Advance in my case, as it just thickens the mucous that is already there - and on occasion the night-time tablets I take are not able to "swim" through all of this - or that is how it feels.
But that is perhaps just an idiosyncratic thing with me.
Perhaps if you take just a teaspoonful or less at a time, that will help the negative effects this is giving you.
I have been reading a LOT on line about LPR and it turns out that doctors do not know much about this yet and are doing a lot of research, as do not really know how to treat it, as Gaviscon Advance is not really sufficient. I am wondering whether perhaps immunology is required here?
Difficult to see hospital consultants during this Panemic!!!
I have not been on this site for several years, as have been diagnosed with COPD which was a mis-diagnosis - and I am going to make a complaint about this negligent GP I am seeing..
Take care and stay safe,
Marguerite
