I think Ranitidine is banned now, nothing to do with coronavirus, other concerns. I have a hiatus hernia and they never worked well for me.

I believe they are not as strong as a PPI (Omeprazole, Lansoprazole) so I don't think it would be a problem if you just stopped. Others more knowledgeable might have different advice though! I am ok on Lansoprazole 15mg in the morning and Peptac or Gaviscon after dinner.

Hi, I also have Hiatus hernia and Gerd, on 40mg Omeoprazole for years until it stopped working. Now taking Sucralfate morning and night and 20mg Omeoprazole before dinner, doctor was sceptical but it is working and no reflux for almost a year. Tried stopping the Sucralfate after a few months but reflux came back so went back on it, tried stopping Omeoprazole and although no reflux, almost constant indigestion so went back to using both.

Hi KKatz

There are two drugs that work the same as Ranitadine, I changed a couple of months ago becaused there was a problem with Ranitidine. I changed to Famotidine with no problem. The other one is Cimetidine . Hope that this helps you.

Doctor says I am on omeprazole so that is it.I suppose if I get real problems then I can ask again.I have one month's supply but don't want to stop now as added chest pain could mean so many other things.

I would ask the doctor for Famotidine or Cimetidine, the worst that he can say is no.

Ranitidine has been determined to be a carcinogen. It was taken off the market here in the U.S. last year. When that happened, my doctor told me to eliminate the Ranitidine and take only the Esomeprozole. There has been a small difference, but not enough for me to ask for a secondary prescription for Famotidine orCimetidine.
