Compromised immune system/holiday/coronavirus

We're due to go to Krakow on Monday where there has just been an outbreak of coronavirus. Obviously I'm worried because John is 10 months post IL and his immune system will still be compromised. Insurance company says we will be covered if GP sends letter saying he shouldn't travel but GP (who has seen him once about 10 months ago) says he has difficulty with this as really he is fit to travel but is prepared to complete a claim form. My question is what do people think - should we risk it and just go or should we just pay a fee and rebook for a later date?

Thanks

Well I would rebook for another date later but we dont know how long this virus is going to take to fizzle out if it ever does I think go with your gut feeling and good luck

Try your oncologist or surgeon for a letter.

Hi Hogwart - Personally for me - I wouldn’t go anywhere right now - the thought of being stuck in a foreign country and hospital for weeks fills me with fear ( I know that can happen anytime but it’s far more likely at the moment ) and it’s still early days for your husband - also would you ‘really’ enjoy it due to the worry of it all - good luck with your decision

Hi, I'm afraid that I agree with the others, I would not go, my wife and I have decided to cut out as much contact with others (no club visits etc ). We are both over 75 and having had the I. L. op and chemo I am fearful of contracting this virus.

Goodness! I would err on the side of caution. I’m getting very worried about going out locally & possibly bringing something into the house that my husband could catch. I would definitely talk to your husbands surgical team re this.

At the end of the day you must do what you feel is best.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. The oncologists view was that the Foreign Office hadn't banned travel to Poland and basically took the same view as the GP. So the travel company said the holiday could be transferred to a later date so that's what we did. We lost out on the airport parking and hotel package though as they wouldn't transfer the booking because they said they'd had too many cancellations! So we won't be using that hotel again!

Why risk it,I would only go in emergency.

Am afraid why go - would you really enjoy if you were worrying and watching the news all the time - also a very at risk group
