Burning/reflux

Hi

I had TG January 2019, the past 4 days or so I’ve had a reflux sensation in my throat, it doesn’t get worse throughout day or during night just a constant sensation. My nurse seems to think it’s normal but I’m wondering if anyone has experience of this. My chemo finished in March and since then I’ve been feeling well, eating ok and my weight stable and blood all good. Im just a bit concerned because it’s not going away, gavisgon doesn’t seem to help. I’m on the add aspirin trial and wondering if it could be the aspirin irritating things.

Thanks for any replies x

Hi, You mention gaviscon but not PPIs? I ask as it sounds like silent reflux. The add-aspirin trial is blinded and patients can receive placebo, 100 mg/day or 300 mg/day. I'd suggest mentioning symptoms to the trial investigator as they will be able to "unblind" you to assess whether your symptoms are associated with aspirin and the higher dose in particular. I would have thought the burning sensation would be lower down if associated with aspirin but I'm not an expert. I've been taking low-dose aspirin (75mg but enteric coated) for 7 years since my op but haven't experienced any side effects (also take lansoprazole 30 mg/day and occasional gaviscon at night).

Good luck

David

Thanks for your reply David. I’m on the run in for the trial so at the moment they’ve got me on 100mg a day before it switches to the blind trial, I will call the nurse and mention it. I was told ppis are no longer useful because having no stomach means no stomach acid to suppress when I was out on the trial. People have mentioned bile but I’m not bringing anything up which many people talk about.

It isn’t there when I first wake up but starts within half an hour of moving about, there’s nothing in my chest just my throat and it almost feels like my nose. I’m trying to get a GP appointment, but, feel like they won’t really know what to do.

Thanks again x
