I had a total gastrectomy 3 weeks ago, so I’m aware it’s very early days and everything is probably working really hard.
I’ve been doing ok, I was having a few hard days over the weekend, bloating and uncomfortable and diarrhoea. I’ve been given digestive enzymes to try but what I’ve noticed over the past few days is after eating I get a dull ache and twinges in my lower back, I see my consultant next week and will mention it but wondering if anyone experienced the same?
Its hard when your so inactive not to notice every little thing so my mind is working overtime.
Thanks in advance x

Hi it is very early days. If you had Ivor Lewis they would have broken some ribs or gone through intercostal muscles. Every thing has been moved up in your body!! You would of had drains in which can give you twinges when they heal. Also your body is trying to work in a different way (how things pass through your body). Stay positive and well done.
Hi you are right it’s very early days. It’s still. Tiny portions and grazing rather than eating meals. It could be nerve damage from the op or just that you are eating too much at once. And putting a strain on the system. At 3 weeks I was managing 2 ritz crackers and cheese, or 2 dairy Lea triangles, or a boiled egg and half a slice of toast. Or A slice of ham and a spoon of mash. If I ate more I would get cramps and diarrheoa, etc. I tried to remember to Chew everything throughly. And found chocolate biscuits and Jaffa cakes were my staple for a while. 8 years on i still have times where I go back to grazing especially if I’m exhausted.
