Advice please

Hi all

My mum had the Ivor Lewis operation about 4 months ago ... She had been ok but last month she felt really sick and was sick most days which lasted about a week. She had no appetite and wasn't really eating. So we rang the hospital and she was booked into have a that thing they do with a bloon not sure on the medical name for it ... But after she had the appointment come through the door she felt much better and was really Hungary. We spoke to the nurse and she said don't have it done as it could up set it all again if u feel good we will leave it so we did and In the last month she has actually gained 6 pounds in weight ... But the last couple of days she has been sick again is this a normal thing that people go through after this operation ....

My mum now has had to call the paramedics there gonna send a doctor out ... She is just being sick all the time and can't keep nothing down does anyone els or know anyone who has had this problem

Hello, Colin is my name from Mudgee in rural NSW Aust I am 6 months out from Ivor Lewis. Yes this variation in appetite and nausea occurrence can happen , nothing about this operation and recovery is normal. It is a radical assault spin your body and it can take up to two years to get anywhere near normal. Everyone is different and can have different problems, nausea cramps reflux dumping etc. I am only having minor issues, infrequent occurrences of above and very slow to put on weight, but I am alive and doing most things I was doing before the operation Tell your mother to be patient and hang in there, she sounds like she is about average to me I have read a lot of stories about people with more problems than us.

Thank you. The other thing l did not mention is to take it easy on the sugar intake as this can cause dumping syndrome as Sugar is hard to metabolise with less stomach. This means all sugar in any form The worst is white table sucrose but they'd not much difference in any sweet substance . A bit of saccharine is the least harmful stay away from aspartame , nasty stuff. stevia is a safe natural sweetener. Hope this helps
